Tom Imagine
_________I watched from the park bench as my daughter Ezra was playing on the playground. She giggled, and was running around the slides in a game of tag with the other children.
I looked back down at my book, and flipped to the next page to finish off the chapter I was reading.
I began to notice the change in weather, and I knew it was about time Ezra and I headed back home. I'm pretty sure she had her grammer to do also.
"Ezra!" I call out.
"Yes mommy!?" She stopped her game, and came over to me.
"Honey, it looks like we should be going now--"
"Aww mom." Ezra pouted. "Please, one more game? It'll be quick, I'm sure of it mommy." She said.
"Oh, alright." I gave in to her cuteness. "But only one game, and say by to your friends for now."
"Alright." Ezra smiled, and ran back to join in the game again. I put my book down, and marked where I left off. I began to gather my things so I'll be ready.
From the corner of my eye I see a tall man with his hands in a long coat coming my way. I took a closer look, and it was who I thought I wouldn't see again.
Tom had his hair nicely done, and was now growing a light beard. I assumed he only had it for a movie he was doing.
He continued towards me but I looked away, and only hoped the game that Ezra was playing would get finished with soon. Unfortunately, that didn't happen since Tom was already close.
"Y/n!" He said. I sensed a hint of sadness, love, and slight anger mixed into one. The last time I heard his voice sound like that was the day I left him to go back to New York.
I didn't even bother to look at him.
"What Tom?" I said.
"I came all the way here for you... and Ezra." He began.
"And for what? Isn't it late for that now Tom?" I said, finally locking eyes with him.
"I realized the mistakes, I wanted to correct them. I want to mend our relationship, I want time with my daughter... I want my family back."
"Tom, you messed that up and I don't think I can even trust you anymore."
"But I've changed."
"And my mindset haven't..." I sighed. "I still think you'll lie to me and say you had a meeting just to go see another woman, I think you'll still lie and say you'll be home to help raise Ezra with me then go and have a whole week to yourself with work and any other things you had to do with your friends."
"I still have those thoughts, and the trust that was once there back then isn't there now." I finished.
"Im sorry, I was stupid then and now I see that. I didn't know what I had, and I didn't know how lucky I was to have you and Ezra in my life then... I was stupid, and reckless... Selfish to say the least and I'm sorry for what I've done. All I ask is for you to let me in again, let me fix what I've done and give me another chance." Tom said, gently grabbing my left hand.
We both looked down at my hand, and he noticed that I still had my engagement ring on my finger. He ran his finger across it, and looked into my eyes with his beautiful blue ones.
"Please." Tom said. I was going to speak until Ezra came running over to us.
"I won, I won!" She smiled. "I made a promise mommy, I'm ready to go home now."
I looked at her, and took my hand back from Tom's.
"That's wonderful honey." I smiled. "Now let's go home."
"But mommy who's that." She asked, looking up at Tom, and grabbing my hand.
That was the hardest part. Hearing her even ask that question hurt me. It was never supposed to be like this. I never wanted to leave a year after I birthed Ezra but I had to. I knew one day I would have to face this, but I never wanted to.
Tom looked me in the eyes with sadness, and I looked back at Ezra.
"I'm your father." Tom said, crouching down to get eye level with her. She just stared at him with her eyes that were exactly like Tom's.
Ezra didn't say anything. She just quickly let go of my hand, and wrapped her arms around Tom's neck in a hug.
"Daddy?!" She smiled, letting him go. "You're the daddy that mommy talks about almost everyday."
Tom looked up at me.
"I must be." He said, smiling. "And is that so?"
"Whenever she has the time to." Ezra nodded, and Tom picked her up. "Im so happy you're here! Daddy are you coming home with us?" Ezra had hope filled eyes.
"If it's alright with mommy." Tom said.
"It's fine." Was all I could say.
Ezra began to clap in happiness, as she celebrated.
"We should get going to the car..." I said, and Tom continued to hold Ezra as we walked to my car.
I opened the car door, and Tom gave me Ezra so I could secure her in the car seat. After I was done, I closed the door and began to get in my side but I stopped when Tom spoke up.
"Almost everyday?" He asked, smirking.
"Hush." I smiled and looked away. I felt myself blush.
Even though I had left him for good reasons I still loved the man undeniably. I couldn't help it at all after all these years.
Tom came closer to me, and lifted my chin up with his thumb and index finger. We were face to face and at least a inch apart. He glanced down at my lips.
"I truly missed you, and I'm still sorry." He began. "I'm a better man, and maybe one day we can finish what we started." He was mentioning my engagement ring. He lifted his hand and I also saw his ring.
We held hands, and he kissed my forehead.
"From a better man to a great husband." He said.
"For sure?"
"I give you my word."
Tom leaned down and kissed my lips for the first time in 3 years. I felt those same sparks that I had for him. That never changed.
His hands went towards my waist, and my arms wrapped around his neck, deepening the kiss.
I knew I missed this. I knew I missed us. I couldn't deny it.
We slowly broke away from the kiss and I looked deep into his eyes.
"I loved you, and I still do." I said.
"I love you too." He kissed once more. "Let's go home darling."
