4 YEARS BEFORE

"You need to learn to control it. You can't let it control you," he said gruffly to the struggling teen.

"What do you think I'm trying to do, damnit?" The feisty fourteen year old snapped back.

"Well then try harder," he scrutinized.

The girl growled at her father in frustration. He wasn't helping her case at the moment, in fact he was making it worse. "I don't see why we can't just go back to practicing my hand-to-hand!"

"If you can't control your claws first, you're a liability!" He raised his voice. The man circled his daughter in the fighting ring, as his friend John Wraith or Kestral, watched the two from afar.

"You are aware that yelling at her isn't going to help, right? The girl's about as stubborn as you are."

The fourteen year old nodded her head in acknowledgement of what John had said, making sure to emphasize this towards her father.

Her father simply rolled his eyes. "Man, I wonder why, Johnny. Maybe it's the fact she's my daughter."

The teen called Phoenix scoffed in defiance. "I'm nothing like you."

John laughed at that comment, finding the girl's indignant attitude ironically comedic. She was almost exactly like her father in all ways—personality and appearance. Only difference was, Phoenix was born with these bright glowing, green eyes that almost looked inhumanly possible considering the hue the gave off. She asked her father about them multiple times, but she was never supplied with an answer. Oh, and not to mention the three adamantium claws that erected from both of their knuckles. The ones in which Phoenix's father was trying to help her control at the moment.

Logan Howlett noticed the fit of hysterics his friend was in and he couldn't help but chuckle himself. It was true; the only difference him and his daughter really shared was that fact she was a female.

The girl rolled her eyes, trying to hide the smile starting to reveal its ugly head on her face. "What's so funny?"

The chuckle fest the two men were engaged in started to die down and Logan simply responded to his daughter with a smile of genuine content on his face. "Nothin, Nic. Let's get back to training." He ruffled the girl's hair playfully and she finally smiled up at her father.

PRESENT

"Nixie? Phoenix?" Lafayette called for his friend. She'd been zoned out for a few after she grabbed a seat at the bar. "Nic?" He asked more urgently.
