Chapter Two

"No Derek, the Dark Elves won that war that's why many of their population still live there," she said after explaining again. The war they were talking about had been between the Dark Elves and the Orcs and was a rather brief one. Their class hadn't spent a lot of time talking about it but Becca still thought it was worth mentioning in their project since it mean the Dark Elves got to keep their home island.

"Oh.... right. How do you remember all of this?"

"Because I plan on visiting the Orlea Enclave someday, it may help to know their history and culture. Do you think we should add in anything about Azareland into the project?" the girl asked, her eyes bright at the thought of adventure. He shook his head which meant they had finished the last bit of the project but Becca's mind was still planning out adventures to far away lands. Derek finished repacking his backpack.

"So, I'll see you in sc... Never mind. But I will text you, ok?"

"Yeah let me know how the project goes for me?" She helped complete it just for the fun of it, she knew at this point she was not going to be able to receive her share of a grade on it. History class was for planning out future adventures though; the real kind. Not just the kind where they were in the back yard with some sticks to use as swords. Becca planned to travel and see the world outside of Aldenmoore, hopefully with Zackary and Derek at her side. She knew right now they took what she was saying as nonsense but she hoped eventually they would come around.

Eventually both kids were called down for dinner. Becca looked around and saw Derek had in fact gone home this time instead of hanging around trying to get an invite for dinner again. She figured that even the nights he ate at their house he went home and ate whatever his mom had made too. It seemed like Derek was always eating. But then again, him and Zackary were still growing where she was just tiny. Becca and Zack took their places at the table, food already served and their parents already there and waiting.

Becca took a big bite of chicken before asking Zack, "So have you started thinking about what we're going to do for your birthday? Like a party or something? Its next month already" He shook his head. He never really made a big fuss over his birthday.

"Not really. Just spend some time with you guys, maybe Derek too. Probably a cake?" he said in between bites of food.

"Such a simple request," she said laughing. Becca always made a bigger deal over the day. It wasn't because she had more friends; her birthdays usually just consisted of Zack and Derek too and it wasn't about the presents either. She always had some kind of adventure planned for just the three of them. The rest of the meal was surprisingly normal considering Becca had just been suspended from school again, but it seemed that fact was forgotten for the time being, which Becca sure wasn't going to complain about.

"You kids get your homework done?"

"Yes dad" they both answered annoyed. It was the same thing every night. What kid would admit they didn't do their homework anyway?

"Even you Becca?" his tone heavily implied he didn't believe her. It made sense considering she now had a week off from school.

"Yeah so no idea what I'm going to spend the next week doing, but I'm sure I'll find something to do with myself"

"I'm sure you will too, sometimes that in itself is worrying. Good night kids,"

"Night dad!" They both yelled before disappearing up the stairs. They each made a quick stop into their separate bedrooms to get changed into pajamas. They met up in the bathroom that connected their bedrooms so they both could brush their teeth. They had been doing it for years and had long ago figured out how to share the sink.
