I wake up before Neymar, and leave quietly as not to wake him up. Katie is just coming out of her room, and I head downstairs, she follows eagerly.
I sit at the kitchen table, and she sits across from me, she obviously wants to talk.
"Hey Jack." She smiles.
"It's Jax." I reply, she frowns for a moment but returns to her smile soon enough.
"Jax. How are you?"
"What do you want Katie?"
"I don't want anything." She frowns slightly.
"I'm not the same kid I was. I can read people. Don't lie to me, tell me what you want."
She doesn't go back to her smile. She folds her hands and straightens her back, formal-like.
"Dad is dead. Shouldn't things be split between us?"
"No."
"Come on Jack, that's hardly fair."
"Jax. And fair? Was it fair for me to be forced into killing innocents? Was it fair for my mother and sister to be killed? Was it fair for me to be abused? Do not, speak of being fair to me. And I think this is fair, we get what we deserve, not what we want. I have earned my rights to everything I helped create. You were dead. So stay dead, because you're not getting any of this. Besides, Neymar is impressed by it all." I smirk.
"Neymar again? Don't you think he's a little... I dunno... good? Doesn't really fit in with the Moriarty group. He's making you soft."
I tighten my jaw, how dare she.
"I'm not soft, I doubt I'll ever be. I can kick your ass, and anyone else who threatens me or mine. You're toeing the line, don't cross it."
"I'm just saying, he doesn't seem so good for you. I could make things easier, and get rid of him, so you don't have to break his poor heart. Find another man, someone who keeps you tough."
"Leave Katie. Get out, go away, and never come back." I stand up, I'm done with her, she wanted to fake her death, then she can walk out on her perfectly working legs.
"You're kicking me out?"
"I never invited you."
"This is my house too!" She argues
"You've never set foot in this house until yesterday. Your home, burned with our mother. Get out."
"I'm not leaving." She crosses her arms.
"You'll find that I am not a very forgiving person, and you'll do best to leave before I remove you. As I said before, nobody threatens me or mine."
She only stares at me, but she can't hold my gaze and looks away. She stands up and leaves. I hear the front door open and close, a second later Neymar walks in.
"Morning." I say and sit back at the table.
He sits next to me and grabs my hand gently.
"Thank you." It was almost a whisper, but I heard him clearly.
"She wasn't my sister anyway. Same face, not the same person. Maybe she wasn't the person I thought she was at all."
He nods understanding and rests his face on my shoulder, he seems tired still.
"Coffee?" I ask, meaning the café.
"Mm, sounds good."
~~~
Neymar answers his phone, I can tell it's Lestrade. Melinda waves from behind the counter, a smile on her face. I wave back but listen to Neymars side of the conversation.
