I was playing with my dolls when I heard the front door being opened.

Looking up I found my mom entering the house along with a strange man. The man looked like he hadn't taken a proper bath in days. Tufts of his hair were stuck to his forehead due to excess perspiration. His clothes were heavily soiled. Seeing him standing next to my pristine mom was almost comical.

"Sweetie this is Uncle Nic, he is one of your father's friends." I heard my mom say to me. It looked like she wanted to add something more but thought against it when her phone started ringing.

"Sweetie I really have to take this call. But while I'm gone why don't you play with Uncle Nic?" She finished with a warm smile and headed to the room she and dad shared. I don't know if it was just me but I saw Uncle Nic almost flash a sinister smile in the direction of my mom's retreating form.

"So what do you wanna play, little girl?" I heard him ask me. His face held a charming smile now which made me think it that maybe his previous reaction was just a figment of my childish imagination.
