Author's Note: My deepest apologies for such a delay on this chapter. I have to adult responsibly every day, and have been swamped with work, and life in general. If I could, I'd get a new chapter every week, but I can't afford that. I hope you like it!  On with the show!

"So you wanna be an ambulance chaser?"

"So you wanna be an ambulance?"

My new college roommate and I were getting to know each other. It was the second day together, and we were discussing what we were studying. My roommate wanted to be a lawyer. I wanted to be a writer, but in the meantime, I'd be learning medicine and driving an ambulance. Figured learning a bit of medicine couldn't hurt before applying to be a paramedic.

"First ambulance and being a paramedic," I said, as I wrote down my plans for the future. "Since we don't live in a hotbed of violence, there'll be quiet nights and I'll be able to work on my book. First, a paramedic. Then, an author! Sounds good to me!"

"I'll be a lawyer. Make partner in less than ten years. Rake in the high six figures a year!" My roommate said as he contemplated his bookshelf which was full of law books. I never have read them, but I'm sure they were written by someone who was important at one time.

I didn't have much to my name. Just the important things. Television?  Check. Stereo with surround sound connected to the television?  Check. Xbox 360 that connected to the stereo and television?  Check. Computer with the latest version of World of Warcraft on it?  Check. Power to the Forsaken, baby!  Crap furniture because my money was invested in electronics?  Double check. Life was good. If I could be a successful author, life would be better.

I'd actually applied to get my EMT license already. I'd figured that if they knew I was enrolled in college and studying first aid and medicine, they'd be more inclined to grant me the license.

"Got a long ways ahead of me before I can become a lawyer though.  Going to finish college, go to law school, pass the bar..." he trailed off as he realized his dream was years away.

"Sounds pretty boring.  Bar-ring, rather," I mused.

Dave, my roommate laughed. I checked my watch and saw it was time for my favorite television show. I headed to the front room where the tv was located.

"It's time for some male bonding," I said as I turned on the tv and sat on the couch.

"What?"

"I need to do some male bonding with the boys in the Jersey mafia. The Sooranos is on!"

"Yes!" Dave cheered. "I'd forgotten about it! First episode of the new season!"

"Correct!"

Soon, we were watching the show's opening. Tony Soprano was driving home as the credits rolled. Dave and I watched as FBI agent Dwight Harris had to puke a bit on the road. Not exactly an opening we liked. By the end, we were sitting on the edge of our seats. Tony had been shot by Junior who was suffering from dementia. Tony passed out shortly after dialing 911.

"Shoulda been that fat idiot, Bobby Baccala," I declared as the end credit appeared on screen, leaving us uncertain about Tony's fate.

"If he and that bitch Janice weren't focused on getting their 8 month old kid into school, it woulda been! He looked like such a tool in that train engineer's outfit." Dave said as he stood and stretched.

"I think Uncle June is next for the nursing home. No way will anyone want to care for him now."

"It's not a nursing home!" Dave shot back, quoting a repeated line from an earlier season. "It's a retirement community!"
