The Castle

The most beautiful thing in Eradania was the ginormous purple castle on the edge of the kingdom. It had towers taller than any other in the land. It had a colorful maze of gardens in the front and two sides, but the back was the most mysterious part. The down stairs living room to the castle opened up to a forest.
Not just any forest, no, a forest that was said to eat people alive. That was just a myth of course, it was the things in the forest that people were really afraid of. Witches, goblins, trolls and werewolves dwelled there, terrorizing any being who dare step foot into the forest.
This castle wasn't always there. The palace before was bland and gray, the new Queen had it torn down and build this in its place. Everyone in the kingdom wondered why she left an opening to the forest with no door. Was she trying to make peace with the monsters? Was she trying to show her bravery? The most curious of all were her own sons.
Eli and Alex bombarded her with questions everyday until they were 6 when she threatened to throw them into the forest. The boys looked for answers elsewhere by asking their father. The King's white face turned red and he told the boys to leave it alone. They knew that they were hiding something, but had given it up until something happened this morning.
