The children were playing hide and seek at Grandmother's house when dinner was dinner was ready. All of the children came running but one. And that one was little Alex.

He was still playing hide and seek. He ran out of the yard and a block down the road. Alex didn't know that he would get in heaps of trouble for leaving the yard.

He hid in a box in an alley with a soup inside. There was a spoon beside it so he picked it up. Alex was about to slurp down the soup when the homless guy who lived there crawled in.

The box man started making crazy noises at Alex.

“My soup!" he screeched/growled and kicked Alex to the curb. He started crying and ran out the alley all the way back to Grandmothers' house. She gave him his own soup and sent him to bed. Alex was glad he didn't get a time-out. He was so glad, in fact, he did it again the next day.

This time he went farther down the road. Every day he would travel farther. The farther he traveled, the faster he'd walk. He would always get back before Granny called them in. She made Alex an award for the best hider and Jonah an award for the best seeker.

One day Alex wanted to play with the compass. He slipped it into his pocket and traveled many miles. He got lost and couldn't find his way back. We went all the way from Granny's house in Manhattan to Georgia. Alex stayed in Georgia for five more years until a hobo kidnapped him and took him back to Granny's so he could see her again. There he ate soup with the box man, hobo man, and Granny.  The End.
