I could hear Kelly going on and on in the front seat of the car, complementing her niece and nephew. She was excited that we would finally be meeting them. Meanwhile, I was counting down the minutes for it to be over.

We were driving to a very fancy restaurant with a very fancy French name, where we had to dress very fancy to. Both my brother and dad were wearing appropriate button down shirts with black slacks. Kelly and I were both wearing dresses. Hers was a burgundy color while mine was a rosy pink. I had been going through my wardrobe earlier looking for the right fancy dinner dress to wear while I was on the phone talking with my best friend Mia from New York on the phone.

“So you are telling me that Dylan, the boy who teased the hell out of you, did not recognize you?” Mia asked.

“We already went over this Mia. Twice,” I rolled my eyes as I kept looking through my dresses trying to find the right one.

“And then you get to seat next to a very sexy guy with amazing green eyes who unfortunately has a bitchy girlfriend. And then Ben almost beats up Dylan but then you had to go and ruin all the fun. And then you meet sexy guy’s twin sister, who was nice but then tuned out to not be so nice.” Mia pauses, “You had a pretty eventful first day then.”

“Yeah and it’s not over yet,” I laughed.

“I really don’t see why you are stressing over this dinner thing. You get to sit down, eat some tasty French food, with eye candy across the table.  Ari, if I could take your spot in sunny and warm California and you take mine in cold and windy New York I would do it. Like right now do it.”

“Yeah too bad you can’t reach through the phone and pulled me through it right?” I asked.

“Yeah it’s really too bad.” Mia pouted.

I smiled, “I miss you Mia. I don’t think I’ll be able to survive with out you.”

“Excuse me? You’re not the one stuck over here with bubblehead number one and bubblehead number two following your every move. It’s really creeping me out. Bubblehead number two actually asked me if she could be my new best friend. As if! I’m the one who won’t survive without you Hun.” Mia exclaimed. While I had been in New York, Mia and I had been joined at the hip. We did everything together, shared our secrets, crush on each other’s older brothers. She had been my motivation and she influenced me to becoming the strong person I now am. I’m taking this separation hard.

“It’s just weird not having you here, throwing dresses at me to try on. Leaving my room a mess with your craziness,” I said.

“Yeah I know what you mean. But it still doesn’t stop me from telling you what to wear,” Mia responded. Of course it wont. “You should wear the dress you wore to Michelle’s New Years party. The rosy pink one that shows of your curves and brings out your blue eyes. Green eyes won’t take his eyes off you.”

“That is not the objective of this dinner Mia.”

“I really don’t care Ari. Now do as I say.”

And as always, Mia had been right about the dress. I had matched them with nude wedges, pearl earrings, and a silver tiffany’s necklace with a bow hanging from the chain. I had let my hair down and curled it at the bottom. I did my makeup simple, not wanting to over do it.

When I had gone downstairs, Kelly gushed over me while my dad complained about the length of the dress. Kelly had grabbed his arm and hauled him to the car while Ben stayed behind to give me a disapproving look, “I will beat up any guy who’s eyes wander.”

Yeah, it’s no surprised he would say that.

We soon arrived and dad handed the keys to the valet as we got out of the car. I looked at the exterior of the restaurant, and it was very fancy indeed. Kelly led the way with my father next to her, with Ben and I following. Kelly told the hostess at the front desk about the reservation name, and the lady showed us to the table. I had been hoping for a couple of more minutes to prepare my self, but the other family had already sat arrived.
