I drew a few shaky breaths, as we all witnessed half of Kota's face- no, an impostor's- melt from the burn of the fireball that hit him. He stood there, both feet still locked to the ground, restrained by the vines and roots, thrashing wildly. Dark, burnt goo dripped from his head down to the ground as terrifying moans echoed out from the man I thought was Kota.

Part of me rejoiced knowing it hadn't been him all this time. The other was holding out hope that the real Kota wasn't in any kind of real danger. Cold as he may have been when we'd first met, I could never wish for something like this to happen to him.

North, Silas and Luke waited for the smoke to clear, before approaching Scorched Face. Or so Luke called the man, as he hollered for it to look at them.

"How'd you enter the school? And what do you want with the girl?" North asked the trapped man.

"And here I thought you people are smart." Splutters of black mush came out of the man's mouth as he answered. "How else?"

"It's the Shadow who attacked Sang that night." I heard Silas say, his shoulders deflating in the process. His eyes widened, as if terrified of something he had just realized.

"Bingo!" The shadow acknowledged Silas, then quickly brought his attention back to North. "See, you f***head, if you'd use your brain more instead of that stupid alice, maybe you'd be better at understanding the situation well. Then again, I wouldn't mind seeing your life waste away because of it, so go ahead and hit me!" An eruption of laughter ensued, as his scorched head tossed back while his body got covered in more vines.

Another fireball suddenly lit up from North's hand, ready to hurl the whole thing at the Shadow when Luke got in his way, preventing him of his plan.

As if he gained some sort of confidence, Luke declared with a playful tone, "Sang doesn't have the thing you were looking for, right?"

Luke's smug face says it all. He did put it on me. Without me even knowing. I smiled to myself, thinking what a cheeky brat he really was, but it soon faded away, as a new realization dawned on me.

Why'd he do it? Why go through the trouble of sneaking some kind of necklace on me? Did... did they know this was gonna happen?

I instinctively took a step back, as I watched the four of them talk animatedly, their voices turning static in my ears.

A heavy presence suddenly brought my senses back in full alert. "You just can't trust anybody, can you now, Sang?" The man who captured me spoke up, his mechanical voice adding an eerie feeling to the whole situation.

Ignoring what he had said, I turned away from the scene outside and faced him. "You heard what he said. This is not what you're looking for." I lifted the chain, showing him an ordinary looking key and waved it between us. I tried to pull it off from me, but it wouldn't go past my ears. I clutched the chain harder, frustrated how this was all turning out. I just want the damn thing off of me!

I tried and tried, but it was all in vain.

"Don't waste your time getting it off, Sang. Haven't they taught you anything yet?"

"Stop saying my name as if you know me." I said in disgust.

"Hush. You don't know what you're saying. I just don't want to hear you sound so... stupid. That's all. The least they could've done is to educate you with these basic things, don't you think so?" He stalked forward, causing me to stagger backwards, ultimately having me against the walls of this place.
