It's a Monday morning and Jayden Monroe sat at the back of the class. Jayden waited impatiently for the last bell to ring. The eighteen year old boy was desperate to leave and head to the music room. He had tradition where every Monday and Thursday he would stay after school and play the drums. Suddenly, the bell rung, meaning that school was over for the day. He grabbed his stuff and ran out the class towards the music room.
Vinny sighed as he left the locker room. He had just finished soccer practice and he realized that he had left his leather jacket in his locker. As he was walking down the hallway, he hears the beat of a drum. He walks towards the noise, which came from the music. The door was cracked open, just enough for him to see a boy playing the drums. Vinny walks in the room, but the boy doesn't notice because he has his headphones on. He stands there and admires the boy's drumming skills. The drummer was faced away so he couldn't tell who it was.
The music stopped playing and the boy stooped as well. Vinny began to clap for him. The boy jumps in surprise and takes of his headphones. He faces the other boy and freezes. Vincent was shocked.
"How come you didn't tell me that you could play the drums?" Vinny asked. He never knew this about his best friend. You see, the two have been best friends since pre-school, so it was a shocker that he didn't know this.
"It never came up?" Jayden tried. Vincent shook his head. "Tell me the truth, Jay."
Jay sighed. "I've been playing the drums since 9th grade. Drumming was the only way for me to express myself without having to really speak up. You know how shy I am, Vinny. This was my only escape from the real world."
Before Vinny could reply, Jay quickly collects his stuff and runs out the class. Vinny immediately chases after his best friend. As soon as Vinny catches up to Jay, he tackles him. The two groaned as they fell on the cement sidewalk.
"Why did you run away?" Vinny asked. "I was afraid that you where going to laugh at me," Jay replied.
"I would never laugh at you, Jay. You're my best friend. Plus, you are such an amazing drummer!" Jay smiled.
"Ya think so?" Jay asked. Vinny nodded. "Absolutely! Now, let's head to your place." The two began to walk to Jay's house.
After arriving to Jay's house, Vinny asked a whole lot of questions. For a while, the two talked about the boy's drumming skills. That's when Vinny came up with an idea.
"Hey... let's make a band!" Vinny said. Jay looked at him confused.
"Why would we start a band? I'm only a drummer and we would need a bassist, lead singer and lead guitarist," Jay pointed out.
"I know how to play guitar!" Vinny exclaimed.
"Since when do you know how to play guitar?" Jay asked.
"You've got your secrets, and I've got mine." Jay sighed.
"I don't know," Jay said, unsure.
"C'mon man, this would be fun! So, what do you say? Will you start a band with me?" Vinny pouted and gave Jay the sad look that he knew he couldn't resist.
"Fine," Jay said. "If you can find a bassist and a lead singer, I'll join the band with you." Vinny cheered. Now all he had to do is find a bassist and a lead singer.
