The next day, the guys decided that they should pick a song that they want to cover. The four sat in Jay's room, thinking of what song they should do a cover of first.
"I was thinking we could do Lullabies by All Time Low," Alec suggested.
"Of course, you would pick that song, you're Alex Gaskarth!" Vinny exclaimed. Alex groaned in frustration.
"FOR THE LAST TIME, I'M NOT ALEX GASKARTH!" Alec yelled.
"No, you really are Alex Gaskarth. You're just pretending to be a boy named Alec Monroe," Vinny said, defending his case.
"Vinny, get over it. He's not Alex Gaskarth, he's my brother," Jay said.
"Fine, but one day I will prove that you're Alex Gaskarth," Vinny told Alec. The other boys sighed and let it go.
"How about Amnesia by 5 Seconds of Summer?" Zach suggested.
"But I don't want to wake up with amnesia," Vinny told the boys sadly.
"What?" The others questioned.
"The lyrics say "I wish that I could wake up with amnesia" I like my life, I don't want to forget by waking up with amnesia," Vinny explained.
"I was thinking that we should cover Somebody I Used to Know by Gotye," Jay says. Zach shakes his head.
"That song is a bit too long and slow. It's a great song, though."
"Maybe we can cover that song," Vinny says. Zach and Jay looked at him.
"Vinny's right, guys. We can cover the song, but we can cover Mayday Parade featuring Vic Fuentes' cover from the Punk Goes Pop album," Alec says.
"That's a great idea!" Jay exclaims. "How come I didn't think about that?"
"Because you aren't me, duh," Vinny says.
"Well then, looks like we have our song,"
The band soon began to practice the song. It was s bit hard at first since this was the first time they were playing together but after a while, they were pretty good. Two weeks after that day, the guys decided to meet up at Alec's and Jay's house to finally record their cover of the song and later put it on YouTube.
The boys went to get their instruments, well everyone except Jay since his drums were already in the basement and began to set up their equipment. Jay and Alec had all this music and recording equipment that their uncle had gotten them. They never knew they would need it until now.
After about an hour later, the four stood (or sat, in Jay's case) with their instruments and looked at the camera.
"Hey YouTube, I'm Alec and these two are my friends, Zach and Vinny and my brother Jay," He said as he pointed to the others. They all waved.
"We recently formed a band and decided to start doing covers on YouTube. I really hope you guys enjoy our performance," Vinny adds.
"Alright, let's get to it. This is Mayday Parade and Vic Fuentes' version os Somebody I Used To Now by Gotye."
"ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR!" Jay yells. The four began to play.
"Now and then I think of when we were together
Like when you said you felt so happy you could die
I told myself that you were right for me
But felt so lonely in your company
But that was love and it's an ache I still remember
You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness
Like resignation to the end, always the end
So when we found that we could not make sense
Well you said that we would still be friends
But I'll admit that I was glad it was over
But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough
No, you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records and then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over
But had me believing it was always something that I'd done
But I don't wanna live that way
Reading into every word you say
You said that you could let it go
And I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know
But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough
No, you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records and then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Somebody
(Now you're just somebody that I used to know)
Somebody
(Now you're just somebody that I used to know)"
As the boys finished the song they waved to the camera and said goodbye. Vinny grabs the camera and stops the video. They edit and upload the video to the computer and put it on YouTube.
