My name is Lillian O'Neal and I was born on the 19th of December 1979. I live with my mother and don't know my father. According to my mother Millie, my dad and her had a one night stand. Obviously I don't remember to much about my life before my sixth birthday. My mother told me also once she found out she was pregnant with me, she had tried to find my father but with no luck. She told me she couldn't even remember his name...Apparently. So far I have grown up not knowing my father, or where in the world he actually is.
Being an only child has it's perks. I guess you could call me a genuine quiet person. Though it worried my mother that I'd rather play indoors with my dolls and teddy bears than go and play with other children. That was until I started school. I remember it clearly. It was a hot day, so my mother had stuck me in a pinafore dress, which I absolutely hate. My first day of reception and I didn't want to be there. I wanted to be at home with my mum, playing tea parties and dressing up! That was until I met Samantha Parker. Another girl in my class. She was the complete opposite to me. Her hair was blonde and in high pigtails, all held up with ribbons. She wore a pinafore as well. She looked amazing. As a five year old my idealization was very different to how I ever thought I'd turn out to be.
"Hi! My name is Samantha Parker. What's your name? Do you want to be best friends!" I remember her asking me all at once. I obviously didn't know what I was getting into once I said yes. But from that day on, my life changed forever. She brought me out of my shell of quiet introverted nature and became a social butterfly. By the time we got into year five, we where the biggest troublemakers in the school. From hiding in the toilets at break to talking in class. But something strange happen when I was really happy or really sad. Things around me used to float up and hover. At first I was horrified, it scared me. But as I grew, it seemed to happen more and more. No one knew it was me, but Samantha did. Every time we were alone I'd concentrate on a bottle or a pencil and make it float. I had no idea that I was in fact breaking a law I didn't even know existed yet. I didn't mind only having one friend through my primary school years. It was nice to count on someone. Even though we had our petty fights over silly things, I was used to the quietness. My mother worked a lot to provide for me and herself. I didn't mind if my clothes were someone else's before me or from the lady next door who had an older daughter that I never really spoke to. I was a particularly happy child and didn't really seem to think much of not having a father. That was until I found out I was a witch.
The summer before I was due to start secondary school, I was up stairs with my best friend when the door bell rang. I knew my mum was in so I didn't bother to get the door. Shushing Samantha I tried to listen to whoever it was at the door.
"May I come in? My name is Professor McGonagall. I wish to speak to you and your daughter Lillian." My heart started to beat faster.
"It's about me Sammy Samantha. Wonder who it is."
"It's not a teacher or someone from next door is it?" Samantha asked, I shook my head. I very much doubted it. Suddenly I heard my mother call.
"Lillian! Samantha! Down stairs please!" My mother called up the stairs. Me and Samantha walked down stairs just before we got to the door, I heard my mother talking about my dad. Strange.
"Samantha honey, I need you to go home for now, I'll let Lillian call you from the home phone once we are done here." Samantha nodded. I gave my best friend a hug and showed her out before sitting beside my mum.
"Lillian, this is Professor McGonagall. She needs to speak to us both about something." She spoke introducing me to this old women.
"Lillian, Miss O'Neal. I work at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the last few years, your daughter has shown magical ability that you and Lillian may or may not have known about. Lillian, this is for you. Normally, young boys and girls of magical ability get an invitation to Hogwarts before their eleventh birthday. However, as your birthday lands at the end of the year, you were unable to start until this September because Hogwarts does not accept any witch or wizard under the age of eleven. Any questions?"
I sat there stunned for a moment. This wasn't real it couldn't be. I mean... yeah it could. After all the things I had done. Levitate things and wish to be somewhere and end up somewhere I wished to be.
"Um... Yeah. Does that mean I wont be going to school here?" I questioned.
"I'm afraid not Lillian. Hogwarts is a bording school up in Scotland. Though you will be coming home in the summer and over the long holidays such as Christmas.
So after a few hours of answering questions, me and my mother was take to diagon alley to purchase everything I would need to start Hogwarts. In the months leading up to leaving for Hogwarts. I had a lot of difficulties trying to tell Samantha that I was going off to a bording school instead of the same secondary school as her. But when I did, I was so supervised at Samantha's reaction.
"Sammy. I have to tell you something. I'm not going to the same Secondary school as you."
"What? Why?"
"I've been accepted into this boarding school. I didn't know until the other day. Apparently I'm special."
"Oh my god! That's great Lil, I'm so proud of you. You must write to me every day please. I don't want to loose touch with you. Wait, will you be able phone or is it like super strict and you can't have your phone there?"
"From what I've learnt, phone reception is really bad up in Scotland where the boarding school is. Hey, I will defiantly write to you everyday though don't doubt it."After the holidays ended, I knew it was time to get ready to head to where I would catch the tarin to Hogwarts. My emotions all wound up together.
