Farewell

19 2 1

Speak a gentle farewell, let your words say as much
If you have to leave let it remind me of our past memories
let the dying notes of our love fade softly away
as the rustle of golden leaves that in majestic autumn fall
to kiss the ground with their caressing touch.
If you must leave, let it be like the tides that sweeps back from the shore
leaving in its beloved temporary presence
tokens as arbitrary as shells and precious mother of pearl
Glistening in the sun with your silken breath
Not to be torn apart harshly but fade as the echo of a song.
Must you leave and see me waiting alone?
Pining for you forever on the edge of my broken dreams?
If you must leave, let my last thoughts be of a serene love
Of one last soft kiss, a caress of your cheek
Let it be of the caring I cherished in your smile
If you must leave let it not be in tones of cruelty
But whisper with lost tenderness as gently as you can
So that while my heart breaks at the very thought
I can console myself in quiet reminiscence
For the fire once rekindled in my soul now burns
Soft, but heated as a candle's flame in the dark
That can bestow on me the eternal blessing of light.
If I am to be deprived of the very life that completes me
At least let me in shadows and illusions recall
At least let me know in fitful dreams you still love me.
If my heart must break let it not be shattered
If only it's pulsating beat could die forever
Like a thrown pebble creating ripples in the river
Fading gradually existing only in everlasting memory
If we must part, let it be as unfortunate lovers
Who depart with a saddened farewell smile
The only token of the other's heart they bear
in the repressed memory of our last bleeding tears.
