"Crying shame we lost that one. He had such lovely hands," Clara Miller said to no one in particular, but the heads of the women in their little circle bobbed in agreement.
"It's nice to see him so happy, though. Maybe he'll cut us a break on car repairs."
Mable laughed. "Lucia, you have your own mechanic." She slapped playfully at her sister. "But that brother of his...now there's a man who can turn a few heads. Some good genetics in the Chapel family."
Millie frowned. "I'm just thankful we could get him here on such short notice. I would have hated to have to cancel the first event of the Commission for Happy Husband Hunting. Although, my nephew doesn't look like he's having a very good time."
With a fluff of her hair and a wink at the crowd of old women in her circle, Lucia squared her shoulders. "Well, let's see what we can do about that, shall we?"
