Hey all! So this is going to be a multi-chapter My Fair Lady fanfiction. My Fair Lady is my favorite musical of all time (tied with the Fantasticks) and in my opinion has some of the best characters and music that Broadway has ever had to offer. This is an Eliza Doolittle/Henry Higgins story, which will feature all the other characters you know and love from the show along with a couple of OC characters at my discretion. The story takes place during the final scene in the study and beyond, where Eliza has just returned to see a rather despondent Professor Henry Higgins listening to her voice over the gramophone. I'll include a brief note if necessary at the beginning of each chapter to clarify any particular points or introduce characters. This story WILL contain adult themes and more mature content. I will try to give a warning ahead of time if a particular chapter contains a lot of it, but consider yourself warned.
I was fortunate enough to see the current Broadway revival of My Fair Lady (which is an absolutely spectacular production), and I really enjoyed the chemistry between the Henry and Eliza that had a smaller age gap than what is usually portrayed. However, Rex Harrison will always be the quintessential Henry Higgins in my mind. So, with that being said, I'm making Henry and Eliza 9 years apart as a happy medium of sorts. Eliza is 23 at the start of this story and Henry is 32. For Eliza's character, I'm imagining a mix of Julie Andrews (original Broadway cast), Audrey Hepburn (film version), Lauren Ambrose and Laura Benanti (current Broadway revival). For Henry's character, I'm imagining a mix of Rex Harrison (the quintessential Higgins) and Harry Hadden-Paton (current Broadway revival and utterly adorable as Higgins).
I will try to update this story regularly, and I hope you enjoy it! Happy reading!
