(v.) the realisation that someone else is living a life just as complicated and vivid as yours.

Time stills, and for a moment— just one, an understanding occurs. The way the sunlight warms your skin, the way it shocks your eyes with its brightness, they can feel it too. Somehow, from the look they're giving you, you can actually see their story. The story of their life. How not everything has been sunshine and roses for them. How they've loved, been loved, and been broken hearted. How... they love you.

The minute passes but you try desperately to hold onto the feeling of knowing that they are real, and that they are here. With you. You imagine that they can feel the nearly burning sand pressed against their skin just as acutely as you can. That when they look around, the same surreal feeling that grips you grips them as well. When the hours after that moment begin to chip away at your memory of it, you ruthlessly claw at the knowledge and feelings, pulling them back. You don't want to forget. You never want to forget.
