"it's been over a week now, when will he stop sulking?" the eldest hyung questioned

"he isn't going to get over it overnight," taehyung replied, "hyung, you need to stop being so insensitive. you're supposed to be the eldest here and help him, or at least try to."

the other four remained silent, glancing from time to time at the stairs leading up to the room in which the youngest maknae sat. they were all concerned for jungkook, some more obviously than others. the entire dynamics of the group had been thrown off as a result of jungkook's change in mood and it was worrying them all.

jungkook, the self-dubbed cute maknae had grown dark and distant. once so sociable; he refused to even talk to his own hyungs, choosing instead to shut himself in his own room during the day and at night refusing to even acknowledge that they were even there when spoken directly.

and the cause of this happened just two weeks ago.

"let's just end this," his s/o said to him seemingly out of nowhere. their eyes were cold.

"what... i don't understand. end what?" jungkook has been trying so hard to contain his panic. of course, he knew what they meant, but he was praying that he was wrong.

"our so-called relationship. i want to break up." they said it so casually. like the last year and a half was so easy to walk away from.

"why?" that was all he could think. why? what had he done? he did nothing wrong. he always strived to be perfect in front of them.

they looked at him dead in the eyes. it was as if they could read his mind.

"if after a year and a half together romantically —and having known each other for even longer than that — you still don't trust me enough to open up to then what's the point? i have trusted you for more than i trust people. how can i keep doing that if you don't trust me the same way?"

"but i do trust you." he pleaded. it was the truth, he trusted them so much. he told them things he hadn't even told his own hyungs.

"no you don't. you try so hard to make yourself seem so perfect. you're human, jungkook, we all have flaws. yet, you refuse to show me yours. i mean, for goodness sake, you didn't tell me you were an idol until seven months after we started talking!" at this, y/n threw their hands up. they had tried so hard to be patient with him.
but enough was enough.

jungkook had spent so long that day pleading to them. but they had already made up their mind and walked away from him.

when he returned home, he went into a state of denial. constantly saying they just needed time, they would give him another chance and he would do better. he already had something planned out to show them that things would be better.

when they phoned him, asking to meet up a few days later, jungkook could only think positively about it. so when he left to meet up with them, heart on sleeve, he wasn't prepared for the reason behind the meaning.

a box, with its top open was sat in front of him on the table.

jungkook felt his heart begin to tear up before he even looked inside. belongings he had left at their home. gifts he had given them for birthdays, christmas or just because he felt like buying them something.

"i haven't left anything important with you. anything of mine you do find, you can just go whatever you want with them." they said with a firm underlying message — don't bother with trying to give it back.

the distance they were putting between themselves and jungkook was already so great in such a short length of time. how could they do this? he didn't even bother hiding his sorrow anymore. he could already see some people giving him pitying looks from the corner of his eye.

all what his hyungs knew was that he came home that day with a box of stuff. he didn't talk to them, just went to his room.

they wouldn't meet his eyes. instead, they tried to move their gaze to the floor.

y/n's eyes landed on his right hand and froze there for a second too long. they noticed what was in his hand. they knew exactly what it was.

it was quiet for a few minutes after jungkook stormed into his room — then the sounds of crashing and yelling started.

without even looking at each other, his hyungs had hurried to where the noise was coming from. when more than one of them is making so much noise, it's usually their normal antics. when only one is involved, it couldn't be anything good.

finding jungkook destroying his own room and shouting incoherently.

it took four of them to stop him.

in the chaos as namjoon, hoseok, jimin and taehyung  tried to stop the youngest maknae; jin tried to calm him down by hugging and comforting him, while yoongi found a smart phone lying screen down on the floor.

picking up the item, he saw the large crack across the screen. has jungkook thrown his phone at the wall?

surprisingly, it still worked. the lock screen showed the source of the poor, young maknae's pain.
a photo of him and his now former s/o, their hands forming the shape of a heart and smiles on their faces.

they knew what was in his hand, and yet, they still turned away from him — not giving him a chance to say anything.

he didn't know how long he sat there after they left; his arms limp by his side.

he had been saving up for so long — planning for even longer. but when they first mentioned breaking up a few days earlier, he decided to bring it up earlier than planned.

now the small velvet box and the ring inside it just felt like dead weight in his hand.
