Due to her health, the 2014 Olympic champion and the Quad Queen had a rough season for the past two seasons. For the past two years. She wasn't able to defend any of her titles after earning silvers in the last two World Championships and withdrawal in the Grand Prix series.
But now, the 23-years old and Japanese figure skater, Maiyu Kurosawa was back and participating in the 2017/18 Grand Prix series.
Kurosawa had a great start in the 2017/18 season in the 2017 CS Autumn Classic International after earning a combined total score of 224.25 with the scores of 78.70 in the short program and 145.55 in free skate. Kurosawa won the competition with the margin of 6.70-points ahead of the silver medalist, Canada's Kaetlyn Osmond.
Now continuing her 2017/18 season in the 2017 Internationaux de France, her first Grand Prix assignment in November 17-18. On the short program event, Kurosawa had finished first after a strong performance in the short program, scoring of 79.14. She had a 10.09-points margin ahead of the rest skaters after the short program. On November 18th, despite finishing second in the free skate with the score of 149.78, 1.56-points behind Russia's Alina Zagitova's free skate score, Kurosawa had placed first overall with the combined total score of 228.92. She won the gold medal and will be participating her next Grand Prix series, 2017 Skate America in Lake Placid, New York.
If she won the 2017 Skate America, -she probably will- Kurosawa will be participating back in the Grand Prix Final in Nagoya, Japan. Will she able to take back her title?

Now that she's back, the fans are hoping that the five-time Grand Prix champion will take back her Grand Prix title and become the first ever skater to win six Grand Prix title. They are wishful that she can set another world record and become first woman after Katrina Witt to win the two consecutive Olympics for the upcoming PyeongChang 2018 Olympics. The fans are also looking forward for the comeback of her quads in the major competitions (Grand Prix, Four Continents, Olympics and Worlds) as well.
