After a scolding from Glenda and a reunion with ozpin and glenda, ozpin told lance he would be a one man team

He was told he could travel with other teams on missions and help others in combat practice but he would have some difficulty in the vital festival
But forgeting about that glenda told him he would have to face some team called team CRDL
So thats why we see lance standing on one side on the arena and team CRDL on the other and right now we see that he was smiling and humming,some thing until glenda said

As CRDL was surprised just like everyone else lance or saber charged at inhuman speeds and slashed at DL causing there aura to go in to the red knocking them out of the match
'What That was one slash! Man these guys suck' thought lance as he kicked R in the...man area...knocking him away and putting,him in the way AND destroying his junk
All that was left was Cardin as lance launched some kind of black energy at him
