Kai looked around her now room empty once more, sighing to herself as she twirled in a circle.
This is the last time I'll stare into these pink walls that I hated so much, she thought to herself.
Her mother had painted them pink thinking it would make her daughter more girly, while instead it had the opposite affect. These pink walls made Kai want to rebel against those girly notions her mother had. She wanted to experience the bad side of life before she settled down into the softer side of things. She wanted to get into trouble with the Human officers and beg them not to call her parents. She wanted to sneak a boy into her room and fool around without it going to far. All in all Kai wanted a normal life, one she didn’t have the option of living.
She gazed around the room again, trying to find the spot that held the most positive thoughts. Memories rushed into her mind like a flood. Images of her and her friends playing around and dancing in this very room, times where her mom would ground her only to have her dad sneak her things back, and times where she would just lay down on the bed that covered the left side of her tiny room, contemplating on the times where she felt alone and different.
This room held many memories, many of which she didn't want to give up just yet. Or maybe she just wasn't ready to... But her parents thought it was time that she moved on from the little neighborhood that they lived in, to have a better life. Her father had the chance to get a better job making more money and he wanted to take it. So who was Kai to stop him from that? But if they were asking her, and they weren’t, it didn’t make sense for them to leave one district just to go to another and live the same life. It seemed redundant.
"Kai, sweetheart, are you ready? You're mom is going to pitch a cow if we don't hurry," her father said. He had been standing in the doorway just watching her soak in her last moments in this room. It had been hers since the day she was born.
"Pop do we have to leave? I mean I like it here. All my friends are here," she asked.
This was Kai’s last and finally attempt at trying to stay. The whole being an adult about it thing wasn't really her strong suit. It seemed as if in this household she only got her way when she acted like a child, not an adult. Kai wanted to have whatever she wanted like it has been since she was born, and right now she wanted to stay.
Kai soaked in her fathers' appearance as she waited for an answer. He was tall and slender, but he was built. He was fairly handsome with his deep chestnut hair with eyes to match and tan skin. His bone structure was that of Ryan Reynolds. To say the very least, Kai wasn't the only one who thought her father was a looker. Even now, with that troubled look on his face he was still undeniably handsome.
He sighed heavily, "Sweetheart. I know you want to stay but think of all the things you'll be able to get and do with me having this new job. And look on the bright side."
"What's the bright side of things Pop? That I'm leaving in the middle of the school year or that I'll have to make new friends which, by the way, is hard enough without me being the new girl. I don't really see the bright side," Kai ranted.
Kai didn't mean to lose her temper with her father; she just couldn't see herself not living in this house anymore. It was her home and had been since she was a baby. All of her friends, how few they were, had been her friend since elementary. All of her best childhood and teenage memories were here in this house, in this very room and she didn’t want to loose that because of money.
