A bright light appeared around Lance and Keith, until suddenly--a fusion appeared. Loud gasps of shock and disgust filled the air.(https://data.whicdn.com/images/251447963/large.png)

The fusion looked around, terrified, staring at their hands in confusion. Who were they? What were they? How did they get here? Shiro watched them with curiosity, amazed, stunned. Coran prepared for attack, but Shiro stopped him. "Wait." he said. "Let's go,"

The crowd of gems closed in on the fusion, their expressions full of anger. "This is completely unheard of, two different gems fusing? Disgusting! " they exclaimed.

"Is this...?" the fusion said, but then defused back into Lance and Keith.

Blue Diamond's voice broke out through the crowd, cold and angry. "The rebels have fled! This was not the scenario you told me of! "

"I-I am not--I don't understand, this-this isn't what I saw! This wasn't supposed to happen!" Lance cried out in confusion.  Keith knew Lance would be in trouble for this, for his mistake, and that he could not handle.

"Wait! No,this was my fault!" Keith said, standing in front of Lance protectively.

"Obviously." Blue Diamond said, her eyes filled with rage. Keith shook slightly, afraid. "How dare you fuse with a member of my court!"

"Pl-Please, I'm sorry--"

"You will be shattered for this!" Blue Diamond exclaimed. Lance grabbed Keith's hand, and darted away.

"Wait! What are you doing? We have to go back!" Keith said, shocked.

"They were gonna break you." Lance said, "I couldn't let them do that."

"There's tons of other mes out there! Who cares? Ugh, you have to get back up there..." Keith said, and as it began to rain, he groaned in annoyance.  "What are we supposed to do now?"

Lance had known every moment of his life, how it was going to happen and when. Because of Keith's impulsiveness, he had changed his fate, and now everything was off. Wrong. New. He couldn't see, move, or think straight anymore--he was frozen in place. Ice began to form at Lance's feet, as panic spread through him.

"We've got to get you out of here." Keith said, picking Lance up and carrying him. He found a small cave where they could take shelter in, and set Lance down. "Alright, this should be fine for now."

"Thank you..." Lance said, looking down at his hands. He sighed, and Keith looked up at him, staring at Lance's face. A fire erupted from his feet, and Keith stepped out of the flames.

"We can...use this to warm up, if you're cold." Keith said, looking away from Lance. Lance nodded, and together they huddled up by the fire.

"Thank you, Keith." Lance said, trying to get a handle on the whole fusion thing. It had been weird, yes, but it had also been a marvelous experience and he couldn't wait to try it again. He hoped Keith wasn't worrying too much about their situation.

"I have to find a way to get you back up there! If I don't....if I don't...what kind of ruby am I?" Keith said, more to himself than to Lance. "Up there, you'll be forgiven, since it wasn't your fault, but mine. "

"If we go up there, you'll be broken! Do you really want that?" Lance said, suddenly furious but trying to keep it cool. Keith groaned out in frustration; who cared about what Keith wanted? Right now, Lance was more important. Lance was one of the rarer gems, he was needed back on HomeWorld. There must be some way to get him back up there, back up to the life he'd had.

"Come on, the rain has stopped. Maybe we can find a way back.'' Keith said, putting out the fire and grabbing Lance's hand. A shiver ran down his spine at the contact, he could feel himself wanting to be around Keith more and more. Lance and Keith wandered the earth a bit, smiling and pointing out all of the strange new things they saw. Lance and Keith had been walking around all day, and now it was nearing night time. When they were just dancing together, they could feel themselves being drawn together; like a magnet. A bright purple glow surrounded them, and in seconds,  they'd become one.

The fusion looked down at its hands, beginning to giggle a little at how it felt. This, this is how the two of them wanted to stay; together, forever.  The fusion took a step forward, to see if they could get the hang of being them. The fusion started walking, smiling proudly as they took their first steps. "Ha ha ha, look! I've got the hang of this now!" but then, the fusion tripped, tumbling down a small hill. Landing on their bum, the fusion rubbed their head, surprised. Shiro appeared, Coran right behind him. Looking up, the fusion gasped at how close Shiro was. Shiro, the leader of the Crystal Gems,  the one gem who'd defied his diamond in order to protect a planet he found intriguing and full of life, and resources that should be protected. The fusion panicked, wondering what would happen to them.

"Please don't hurt us! M-Me? Please don't hurt me!" The fusion exclaimed, covering their face with their hands.

"Hurt you? No, no, I'm not here to hurt you! I just wanted to know..." Shiro said, smiling softly.

   "Know what?" the fusion asked.

"What's it like? Being a fusion?" Shiro asked, smiling.

"It...feels...really weird, but, this is how I want to stay. I....like being this way, together. I feel...complete. Like I've found my other half, as though I'd been a wandering, lost, broken gem searching for its missing piece. " The fusion said, removing their hands from their face, and staring at them again. With one finger, the fusion traced over the red gem on their left hand, smiling. "I've never felt like this before, I'm not sure what to do. I've had everything, my whole life, planned. But because of this one instant, my whole world has been changed. What do you call it? That reckless action ruby did, because he didn't want me broken?"

"You already know the answer, don't you?" Shiro said, grinning widely. "It's love, of course! I don't understand it much myself, but that's exactly what love is. New, and kind of frightening, an inexplicable feeling."

"Love..." The fusion echoed, smiling softly.

Yes, this was something they could get used to.
