"Mom? What time is dinner?" Annie calls from the living room.
"Uhh six-ish?" I reply, setting the last plate down.
I walk into the living room and plop down next to Cameron on the couch.
"I love you" he whispers, planting a kiss on my forehead. I just smile, nudging my head into the crook of his neck.
A minute later I hear a knock on the door and reluctantly leave Cam to get it. I open it up to see a grinning Sammy.
"Merry Christmas, mother fuckers." He says, holding up red and green gift bags.
"Uncle Sammy!" Annie runs up to him, clutching his leg.
"Hey, kid." He ruffles her hair with one hand, pulling me into a hug with the other.
"Hey, Sam." Cam says, standing next to the couch.
He pats him on the back and sets the gift bags down next to the tree, pointing out Annie's present.
Happy squeals come from the living room as the three of us sit down at the kitchen table.
"How have you been? I've missed you." Sam says to me.
"I've been good. Better." I reply, motioning to Cam with my head a little bit.
He winks before turning to Cam and asking how he is. They carry on some conversation as I check on the turkey.
There's another knock on the door and Cam rushes to get it.
"Who else is coming?" Sam asks.
"I don't know..." I trail off.
I peak through into the living room and am surprised to see Roni's small figure standing in the doorway talking to Cam.
"Roni!" I squeal, running to her. I pull her into a tight hug and don't let go for a long time. When I do, Annie runs over and jumps into her arms.
"Why hello, little miss Annie." She squeezes her.
After a minute Annie goes back to playing with her toys and we're all standing around in the kitchen catching up.
It's not until I'm sitting at the kitchen table, eating Christmas dinner, surrounded by all the people I love, that this is the happiest I've ever been. My thoughts are interrupted when Annie tugs on my sleeve and asks me to cut her turkey for her.
