Bodies stiff, and guns raised, the rest of the gang and I maneuver our way around corners, and bends, careful not to alert anyone of our location, though the security cameras are probably back up. As I lead, in my head, I can’t help, but ponder the possibilities of how this night will end. So many outcomes, it seems likely that none of us will make it out of this alive. And, that suspicion only hardens the further we venture into this jailhouse.
“I can’t wrap my head around this.” I mumble to myself as I stumble upon an empty corridor with papers scattered all over the floor, and through the windows, the faint glow of the moon dances over the ivory paper. Desks and chairs litter the floor, and computer monitors lay carelessly miscellaneously, spewing cords, and wires from all ends.
This must be the part of the jailhouse where all the information is processed, and stored. I mentally note to myself.
“Someone’s gotta be stiff-arming us. Now, Quinn, I am suggesting something.” Robert grumbles, looking down at Quinn teasingly. Quinn sticks her tongue out at him in reply nudging his shoulder playfully.
“But, who? Who else knows we’re here?” I ask, furrowing my brows in confusion.
“Oh, for fuck’s sake! Are you really this dense?” A familiar voice growls out, interrupting the silence. Out of the shadows of the far side of the corridor steps Kendall, her eyes wild with confidence, and her smirk filled with victory.
All I can do is stand here, and stare at her in bewilderment. My mind goes numb, trying to process what’s happening before me. Part of me questions what in hell Kendall is doing here, but another, more reasonable side of me knows exactly why she’s here, but refuses to believe it. She can’t be.
Kendall has been with me from the beginning, she’s stuck through everything, never straying away from me, always been there for me when I needed her, and now… It’s not possible.
“Kendall? What are you doing here?” I question, unconsciously taking a step in her direction.
She reacts immediately to my movement, raising her gun, and aiming it directly at me from across the room. “Watch your distance, Mayes.” Kendall snarls. “I would say I don’t want to hurt you, but I’d of course be lying.” She adds dismissively.
“Kendall, what are you doing? Put the gun down.” Quinn’s voice shakes a little as she tries to reason with Kendall.
In response, Kendall scoffs, a wicked chuckle vibrating through her whole body as she glares at Quinn who stands unsturdy beside me, held up my Robert’s arms. “Don’t so surprised, Quincey. You knew this would happen. Just think, you could be on the opposite end of this barrel. You said I was crazy, that it would never work. But, look at me now! By the end of the night, Piper, and that bastard son of hers will no longer stand in my way! I’ll take over The U.K. Queens, and you could’ve helped. You could rule with me, but you turned me down. It’s unfortunate, really.” She grins wickedly, eyeing me suspiciously.
“What’s she talking about, Quinn?” Robert asks, his voice uneasy, and cracking by the second.
