Monday morning was a rush. My body somehow found a way to ignored the alarm that blared in my ear. And so, I was late.
Groaning, I walked into class, nearly an hour late. The teacher, Mr. Acol (or Mr. Asshole as Kyle and I called him), glared at me, as I walked into class. I glared right back. Kyle, however, grinned at me as I plopped down into my seat beside him. He quickly scribbled something on a piece of paper, and handed it to me, his weirdly neat but messy handwriting standing out against the white paper in black pen.I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO HAVE TO SPEND THE DAY WITHOUT YOU!!!!! I WAS GOING TO PeriSH! Oof.
I chuckled and tuned out. Weirdly, my thought stream went to Kyle.

There was a new boy in class. Although he said he was a boy, the teacher called him she, and he almost punched her. The boy smiled at everyone, and then to where I sat, disinterested. He nodded at the teacher one more time and went to the empty seat beside me.
"Hi! I'm Kyle." He whispered.
I rolled my eyes. "I know that," I told him, and that's how we--rather he--started bothering each other in class. After that, random notes were passed in between us, and frequently they consisted of Kyle complaining how much he missed his hometown in Canada.
As time passed, we grew to be even better friends, and soon, people were giving us "are they dating?" looks. We weren't, of course. It's just sometimes we acted as if we were an old married couple.
We only ever had two real fights. One, was when I took one of his books, and then accidentally dropped it into the lake at my cottage. (Note to self: NEVER take Kyle's books near water, or take them without permission.) The second, was when I found out he was hanging out with Wilson and Parker out of school, without telling me. This one was pretty recent though, as it only happened a few months ago at the most. I remember that in not talking to Kyle, my life got progressively more boring. When he finally hugged me in first period, I realized that I hated not talking to him. And so, I hugged back.

"{L/N}." Someone snapped, and I knew instantly who it was.
"What do you want, Parker?" I growled, looking up at him.
He sighed, "We're partners for the experiment." I groaned. With Parker? Really?
"What's it for?" I asked, a dangerous edge to my voice.
"Chemistry," he said, glaring at me. I glared back silently.
After a long silence, I sighed. "Fine, whatever." I mumbled, and started doodling on the outside of my notebook. Parker sat down beside me, and as soon as he got comfortable, the teacher dismissed us.
The day passed relatively quickly, but I couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. Especially wrong when I got on the bus.
I though of mom, and how happy she was. Even though dad was on a business trip, and I knew she missed him, she was happy having Tessa and I home.
Then I though of Tessa. I knew it was hard for my 15 year old sister after what happened last year. And after that, the depression got so bad that she didn't even want to move anymore. My heart sank. What if something happened to her? What if I couldn't get home fast enough? What if—?
The bus screeched to a stop at my house, and I blew past everyone, full sprinting. Fumbling with the keys to unlock the door, I finally got the door open and dropped my bag inside, closing the door behind me.
"Tessa?" I called softly. No response. I went into the living room. She wasn't there. The kitchen, nope. The downstairs bathroom was empty, and so was the front room.
The basement was just as empty. Going back up the stairs, three at a time, I went straight up stairs. I was crying by now. Mom wasn't home, she was probably at work.
I went to my room, and looked on the roof. Nope, same with my parent's room, and Tessa's room. The last place I checked was the upstairs bathroom. And it was locked.
