Goodbye

"Anthony! How could you do this?!!! I know you're better than this! She's a child for God sake! Old enough to be your own daughter!!"

"I know this! Don't you think I know this!!? I tried my hardest to end things but I...I just couldn't!!" Anthony said, his voice cracking up at the end.

Diana had come back to the office only to find Anthony where she had left him a few hours earlier.

She had dropped off Lisa after advising her not to come in to work the following day just until they figured out how to sort this whole situation.

Lisa kept quiet the whole ride home wishing she could be with Anthony that very moment. She knew things were about to change.

It was late by the time Diana got back to the office but she knew this was something she had to deal with before the morning. She had suspected something was going on between them but didn't think it was anything this serious.

Coming back to the present moment, she noticed how distressed Anthony was, and calmed down before continuing, "Oh Anthony...how did you think this was going to play out? The 26 year age gap would disappear and you would be free to live happily ever after? I know you're not that naive."

"But...i love her..."

"Oh Anthony..." Diana moved closer to his hunched shoulders and embraced him.
"It's going to be alright. I think you knew this didn't have a future. She still has a life to live. If you do love her, I trust you will make the right decision for both of you."

This was a mess. It had been a blissful couple of months, unforgettable even. But Diana was right. Lisa had a whole life to experience.

Taking his phone from the pile of papers on his desk, he dialed a number.

Calling Princess...

He stared at the screen for several seconds, dreading the conversation he knew was inevitable. He placed the phone against his ear, looking despondently at Diana who had now moved to sit across him.

"Hello?"

"Hi Lisa, we need to talk..."
