After we finished recording and were starting to end our Skype call, Mitch asked if I wanted to hang out with him. He wanted me to show him around the town so he could get to know it better. I said I would be happy to, and that I would swing by his house at 12:00 the next day.

After I finished brushing my teeth and rinsing my mouth out, I walked downstairs to put my shoes on. "Where ya goin, hun?" my mother called from the kitchen. "You know the Hughes's? They have a son named Mitch who asked if I'd show him around town today, so I'm heading over to his house; I'll be back later!" I replied. "Okay, just be home before 11!" She added before I closed the door.

Mitch's house was about a 10 minute walk from mine. I've always walked to the places I've had to go to like the mall, the grocery store, and even to school. We didn't have any other option, since buses weren't provided for us past the 5th grade. I never needed, or even really wanted a car because of it. That was one of the things I actually really liked about living where I did, people just walked everywhere! You didn't have to worry about crossing busy streets, or hearing the sounds of horns during traffic, there simply weren't any. Once I got to Mitch's house, I rang the doorbell and waited.

And waited.

I waited for a few minutes with no response before trying knocking this time. And a few seconds later the door was opened. "Hi! You're the Aceti's son, right? Did you try to ring the doorbell? Did you see the note?" Mitch's mother asked upon seeing me. "I, uh...yes I am. Yes I did...and no, I...I didn't." There was a note taped neatly above the button that said:

 "Please knock, doorbell broken!"

Of course I managed to miss it. "Uh, my name is Jerome, by the way! Is Mitch around? He...asked me to show him around today..." I said, feeling more awkward by the second. I was never good with speaking to people, adults especially. Conversations with them always felt strained to me. "He is, let me go get him for you!" She said cheerily. "You can come in dear; sit wherever you like!" She added before disappearing up the stairs. I carefully stepped inside, looking around a little and situating myself on the very end of the couch in the living room. This was so awkward. I could hear faint voices from the floor above me,

"He's here already? I didn't know, sorry!"

"Just don't leave him waiting, honey. Especially since he's showing you around!"

"Tell him I'll be down in a minute, I just need to find my wallet and put on my shoes."

Just as I had heard, Mitch's mother came downstairs and said that he would be down shortly. "That boy would lose his head if it wasn't attached to his shoulders!" She said with a laugh. I gave a weak chuckle in response. "I really appreciate you taking him out today, though. He won't tell you how happy he is that he made a friend so quickly." I nodded my head and smiled. "Oh, it's no big deal! Mitch is really fun to be around and talk to!" Before his mother could say anything else, Mitch walked into the room and motioned for me to come with him. Thank god. "It was nice meeting you!" I said as I was hurried out the door. "You too!"

After we were a good distance away from the house, Mitch apologized for taking so long. "I woke up later than I wanted to, and one of my sisters was in the bathroom so I couldn't take a shower until she was done." He said. I forgot that Mitch had a sister (two actually) and a younger brother. Unlike him, I was an only child, so I never had to worry about waiting to get into the bathroom, having to share a bedroom, or anything like that. "It's okay man, I'm just not good at small talk!" I chuckled. Mitch smiled, "I'll keep that in mind for future reference!" He said.
