Chapter 1:

I stared up at the man in amazement. He glared down at us. The fire in his eyes was so intense that it could have been enough to set the room ablaze. You could feel the power radiating off of him. In all of his fury, he was handsome. There was no denying it. He looked as if he could be a model with his structured cheekbones and dark hair.

“Who dares to summon me?” he asks again. He looks down at Drake. “Was it you?”

Drake squeaks, tears streaming down his face. I couldn't take the look on his face. He looked as if he was about to die right there.

“It was me,” I said, taking full blame.

The man turned to me. His eyes softened slightly before returning to their glare. “Who are you?”

“I'm Hallie,” I said. “Hallie Sparrow.”

“Well, human, why is it that you have summoned me?” he asks.

“I didn't summon you,” I try.

“Then why was I called here if you did not summon me?”

“It's the name on the board, it spelled out Yen-”

“SILENCE!” he shouts, stopping me from saying the name again. “You do not have the right to say my name.”

“Someone thinks a little too highly of themselves,” I roll my eyes as I cross my arms over the chest. “You are just like every man, so full of themselves.”

“Excuse me?” he raises a dark eyebrow.

“You think that I'm not 'worthy' to say your name, well screw you, buddy.”

“Don't piss off the demon,” Kara snaps at me.

“It would be wise to listen to your friend, Hayley.” the demon said.

“It's Hallie, bastard.” I tell him.

If there is anything I have learned throughout my years, it's how to piss someone off. I have always had a particular talent for this. One time I pissed off one of my ex-boyfriend's so much that he had to move to a different school. I've always been one of those infuriating people that you either hate or you love. Most people go with the first option. Like right now for instance.

I felt a grip around my neck but no one was touching me. I was being lifted off the ground by some unseen force. My hands went to my neck, trying to ply the pressure off. Every breath was coming out as a choking sound.

“You shall respect me,” he says. The candle flames rose up high in the air.

Suddenly I was dropped back down to the ground. I looked up at him. “I will never respect you.”

He stepped forward, grabbing my arm. His grip was rough. I closed my eyes, trying to ignore the pain from his fingers digging into my skin.

When I opened my eyes, I found myself somewhere else. Somewhere...completely different.
