These are just some of the things that turns me off while reading a book. I may add some more on these when I have the time. Or expound on some points.
1. Boring Story - This is what I hated the most. I read to be entertained, not to be put to sleep. lol!
2. Underdeveloped characters - I usually read Romance Stories when I'm young. My mother is a voracious reader and I inherited that. This is one of the things that ticks me off as a reader. Your characters are very important. They are the soul of your story. So you have to mold them and let them grow. Give them life. Make them as real as you can. Make them lovable to your readers, but at the same time maintain a sense of humanity. This is where characterization becomes important.
3. Unnecessary scenes/Fillers - Haha! This is a big turn off for me. This is when the hero or the heroine spends more time with someone else other than themselves. I shun a book wherein the heroine has more dialogues with her family members than with her hero. Or the hero had a better connection with the villain than her heroine. *Shakes head here.
4. Abrupt ending. This makes me go crazy. I mean, I am not yet on the climax, yet it is already the end of the story? How is that? The main characters had just met, the conflict was not yet throughly explored, yet the word THE END already struck my eyes. Batshit crazy! Oh well, this usually happens when a story has a word count limit, and there are a lot of unnecessary scenes and fillers. The kind wherein the hero pops up in the middle of the story already, or the heroine spends some cozy moment with someone on the first half of the story that you thought he was already the one for her, only to find out that there's another guy who would just sprout out of nowhere and win the heroine's heart . Crazy, isn't it?
