The Girlfriend

After that day Sara was a part of my crew. She was always there and I guess Jasmine wasn't too happy about it but she never did say anything. She asked me out and seeing as I had nothing better to do I agreed to try it. I had my first girlfriend.

And it was utterly disturbing. It had been two whole days and I was dying. I was going to break it off today but I just couldn't figure out how. I'd put it off until the final bell rang on Wednesday. Knowing she'd follow me, I walked into the empty girls' room.

"Sara, we needa talk," I said dropping my books.

"Ok. What about, she said all bubbly.

Sitting down on my books I thought how exactly could I do this. Since I'd never broken up with anyone I had no idea where to start. "I want steak."

"You want steak," she said confused.

"Yea. I want steak and your all appetizer," I said looking up to see her expression.

She stood silently on the other side of the bathroom. Then she slid down the wall and started to cry. Not knowing what to say I left. Now off to see Jake.

By the time I got to his house it was five and I got to see his dad walk in. I wondered if Jasmine was up there. Going through my phone I found Jake's dad's number, I had looked it up early this week, and I sent him that picture Jasmine had sent Jake on our date Friday. Then I waited and I waited and I waited, then there was shouting. Goal achieved.

Turning to go home I bumped into Hunter, captain of the football team. "Hey. It's Salina, right," he asked acting like he didn't know my name.

"No," I said letting him have this.

"Ok. Then what's your name," He asked wrapping his arm around me and leading my to the train station.

"I don't know, why don't you tell me," I replied, wondering exactly what he wanted.

"I like your smile," He said gazing into my eyes, "And I know for a fact that your name is Salina."

"Then why'd you ask?"

"Didn't want to seem stalker-ish. So Salina got any plans for October 7th," He said ruffling his hand through his chestnut hair.

"Um let's see October 7th. Yea, but I think I can squeeze you in," I said falling into his blue gray eyes.

We walked into the train but there was only one seat left. Hunter sat down and grabbed me around my waist pulling me onto his lap and holding me close. "Come with me to the Fall Ball," He whispered into my ear.

"Ok, but no funny business, mister" I said leaning back into his chest.

He chuckled, "Can I walk you home," He asked planting little kisses on my neck.

"Don't you live by Franklin," I asked wondering why he would get off the train at my stop then get back on to go home.

"Yea, but I wanna see you home," He said. Noticing that there were some empty seats I tried to get on my Hunter grabbed me around my waist and pulled me back down.

The rest of the ride was pretty peaceful. He got off at my stop refusing to let me walk myself home, claiming that Park Slope was way too dangerous. When we got to my house he gave me a small kiss on the cheek and as I was about to unlock the door, he grabbed my arm. "Salina, I want you to have this," he said shrugging off hi letterman jacket and wrapping it around my shoulders. It was blue with white sleeves and blue and gold cuffs. It read Brooklyn High on the left arm, had the school logo over the left breast, and his number, 69, over his left pocket. "Goodnight Babe," he said walking down the steps and back to the train.
