For the sake of the story, some things have been switched around, you'll see what I mean when you read it. Raven I would like to thank you for your patience of how long this took. Hope you like it!
Leray POV
I walk home a basket on my arm after visiting the village for supplies for Dr. Julian, the sun rising behind me. I turn around a birch tree and am surprised as I see my brother Zane wandering without purpose. I take him by the shoulders. "Zane? What are you doing." The blank and staring look in his ice blue eyes is scaring me.
He blinks in confusion. "Who are you?"
I recoil with surprise. He doesn't remember me. "Zane..." I trail off searching his eyes that he is playing some sort of joke. But Zane doesn't joke. He doesn't have a sense of humor.
My arms fall numbly to my sides and the basket falls to the ground. "Father...." I whisper. Then I am off, tearing through the Birch Woods as the everlasting snow pulls at my feet.
I skid to a stop as I see the fake tree Dr. Julian made his home out of. The door is hanging open. I charge it, clattering down the stairs in my haste. Gasping, I stop on the bottom step. There is a girl leaning over Dr. Julian's bed. She has long waist length brown hair and brown eyes like me. She wears a blue top, jean shorts, and sneakers where I wear a long sleeve blue shirt, jeans, and black combat boots.
Dr. Julian isn't breathing. Isn't moving. He's dead. The only man that showed me love and kindness is dead. She killed him. My adopted father. (it wasn't a documented adoption (so I guess I wasn't a real adoption)) I have no memories of before he found me and now he is gone.
She turns and looks at me with surprise. "I'm sorry I couldn't save h-"
"Lire!" I cut her off, drawing a dagger from my sleeve and pinning her against the wall. "Who are you! Why did you kill my father!"
"R-Raven." She stutters. "Raven Brookstone. And I didn't kill him, I was trying to save him!"
"Lire!" I shove her against the wall pulling my dagger back I bring it down. Raven turns her head closing her eyes. Turning away I shake my head.
Raven struggles as she tries to pull my dagger that is pinning the collar of her shirt to the wall above her shoulder. She looks at me in bewilderment as I go up the stairs. "Don't think you're off the hook." I glare at her. "I need to find my brother. I can't promise your life the next time we meet."
I leave and search through the many foot prints for the tracks of my brother. Finding them, I follow my brother's foot prints through the snow. First I should explain something about my brother. He's a nindroid, in other words a robot. When Dr. Julian found me he had been working on a robot that would protect those who could not protect themselves. He took me in and raised me from a little girl with no memories to my 15 year old self now. And in return I helped him finish Zane, but I wasn't in time to save him. Dr. Julian once told me that when he dies he would turn off Zane's past memories. He didn't tell me why he would do this, but I think it was so Zane would not know he is a nindroid and think that he is human to lead a proper life.
Up ahead I see my brother wandering through the trees. I run up to him and take his elbow. "Not that way Zane. That's where the tree horns are."
"Tree horns?" He asks puzzled as he allows me to lead him away.
"They are the color of the birch trees and have legs as tall as them. Their heads are triangular and flat with glowing pink eyes. They have heavy feet and dagger like teeth. The queen is the largest and has several eyes." I sum up.
"I don't know who you are." He says calmly.
"Zane, I am your sister through my adoption." I explain to him.
