"Wake up." Called a gruff voice. I jumped into consciousness. Looking up I seen a my tall dark haired kidnapper facing me. "We haven't had time to chat little one." He said calmly. I stayed silent. "I am Xavier, many call me X. I have saved you. Though i know you may have not wanted saving so this cage is necessary temporarily. You see out in hell as a halfling you will probably be roped into something you wouldn't want. I would know I suffered a fate just like you." He unlocked my cell and let it swing open.
I was on the ground my body was cut up and dirty. My long brown hair collected around my face. My body was still the size of a child since that is when I died. Though I've been in hell for what feels like a lifetime so it doesn't faze me. I wore a simple dress the one I murdered in. Another reminder was the blood stain soaked onto it. There was no mark on my body but my dress said it all. My beautiful dress.
"What is your name little one?" Xavier asked. I looked him up into his eyes, I made eye contact and I shyed away. Looking at the ground I mumbled. "Ariadne." He reached down and picked my body up. I was in his arms. "Ariadne I'm not going to hurt you okay? I take pity on you because I was you, when I was a little boy my sister and I were stabbed by that very same knife. It's never the same guy and nobody knows who controls it. Only that we all want it to stop. The main class demons are tired of the halflings in hell. It annoys them. They would use you for torture and laugh as you suffer pain from your humanity. In hell nobody has a soul, but you do." He said to me. I relaxed slightly. "What's a halfling?" I asked. "It's a half demon half human." He answered without any hesitation.
He set me down standing and took my hand crouching near me. "Listen Ariadne, my sister Lilliana has found another young girl like you. Possibly from the same time and area you were killed in. We want to raise you two. Help you adapt. And when you are old enough I want you to join us to find that knife and destroy it. We will train you to use your powers and to hide ur human eyes. To make everyone think your a demon. We can help you."
"I'm scared." I whispered. "I was too." He rolled up the sleeve on his arm and showed a small crescent moon mark. Like the one on my cheek. "My sister an I are still halflings. We were born in a city called crescent and this is our mark." Xavier said.
Before I could get another word out the door to the chamber opened. "Xavier are you ready I have the place ready and the girl she's there too." Xavier nodded and took my hand. "I'm going to teach you something quick alright?" He asked. I only gave a nod. "I need you to turn your eyes black for travel. So concentrate. Close your eyes and focus when you open them to black. Picture in your head black." He urgently instructed.
I closed my eyes. Slowly opening them I focused. Black black black black black. And when I opened them. It was different. My eye sight was better and more clear. In hell its hard to see because of the ash from the burning. But not like this. "Very good now take my hand and follow my sister and I." He mumbled. He grabbed my hand and we started walking.
We walked and walked and walked. We didn't run into many creatures or demons except one. He looked at my eyes and looked away. He thought I was just a demon girl.
We reached our destination. It was in the middle of nothing. It was a small chamber like the last but bigger inside. It was hidden by some rocks and hard to get too. If you were to big you wouldn't be able to get in. So I guess it would keep most creatures out. "Lilly you go first." Xavier said to his sister. She squeezed into the hole. "You next Ariadne." He whispered. Out of nowhere I heard a scream. I knew that scream it belonged to a slinganor. It was a creature that could sense humanity. It would try to kill it. That was it's job. I had an encounter with it. It can get into ur mind and corrupt ur thoughts. It's actually quite intelligent.
"Go now Ariadne!" Xavier yelled. I quickly went into the hole. Xavier followed without trouble. The slinganor tried to get in. It hit the hole so hard the chamber shook. Seemingly so it sat outside probably trying to wait us out.
"What's your name sweetie? Xavier didn't tell me." Lilly asked. She was kind and pretty. She had dark hair like Xavier but he was taller. She had plush rosey cheeks and greener eyes than Xavier. "Ariadne." I replied.
"This is Reverie, she is the girl Xavier told you I found. I know Xavier probably scared you dragging you into that cell and leaving you there but he had to because we had to make sure it would be safe to travel here. This is the hideout we found as kids like you." Lilly explained.
"Do you guys have any questions for us?" Xavier asked. Reverie stepped toward him bravely. "Why do I still look like a kid when I've been down here for years?" She asked quietly. "That's because it felt like years, your human bodies aren't used to the slow time passing that happens down here. A day down here is a year in the upside world. It passes so slowly down here that your human bodies try to cling to human years. So until you start telling time like a demon it's going to feel like a very very long time." Lilly explained. They both were crouched down to our heights. "Why does this hurt?" Reverie asked pointing to a dream catcher mark on her arm. "It's your humanity, when your in hell you loose your humanity. And well you guys, Lilliana and I haven't lost ours so it leaves a painful mark and reminds us of our life." Xavier replied.
"You guys stay with Xavier I am going down to find the clothes I laid out for you. Yes still in hell you can find clothes, they aren't the cutest I'll admit but demons that travel between the human plane and they bring back all types of shit." Lilliana said. I nodded to her as Lilly disappeared down what looked like rock stairs. It made me wonder who made this place before them. "You too follow me, you can go days without sleep like you already have but your human bodies do need slight naps. An hour or two every couple of days and you will feel much better. I'll show you where your beds are follow me." Xavier walked and continued talking leaving us to trail behind. "You see Lilliana told me that there were rumors that two new halflings made it here. Not all halflings live through the knife, most die. We got this place ready as soon as possible." He said. He turned into a little pocket in the chamber. Two beds were laid out as well as a strange rock lighting up the room. He must of seen me question it because he explained again, "that's neverrock. It never stops lighting up. It's not very common, so it was hard to get ahold of." He said.
Lilliana walked in. She held two pairs of boots. Two hoodies and leggings. One hoodie was grey one was a baby blue. I picked the grey. Xavier left and Lilliana helped us. She put the grey hoodie on over my head and helped pull the leggings up my legs. After taking the bloody dress off me. She even tied the brown combat boots I was given. She did the same to Reverie. She put the baby blue hoodie on Reverie. She helped with the leggings and tied Reveries black combat boots. It's funny that we match. "You two climb in bed and sleep I'll come get you in a few hours and get you something to eat." She turned to leave and added. "You have to eat every once in a while to supply your human side." Quickly she turned and ducked out. Leaving Reverie and I alone. We slept with our boots on.
I looked at Reverie and finally seen her. She had blonde hair and was taller than me. I think she may be older but I can't tell. "Hi." Reverie said shyly. "Hello." I mumbled back. "We should sleep..?" She asked. It sounded like it was supposed to be a command but it didn't come out that way. I nodded. We both climbed into a bed. They were opposite each other. I tried sleeping. I could hear the faint yells and screams of hell. I suppose that's natural here. "Ariadne...?" I heard a faint whisper. "Yes?" I asked. "Can I sleep with you I'm scared..." Reverie said. "Of course." I replied. I moved over and let her climb under my covers. Soon enough I fell. Into a slumber.
