Listen. Five years is a long time to have a crush on someone. I've liked Liam since I was ten.

Isaac, my brother, recently left me here in Beacon Hills to fend for myself. Today I start my freshman year at Beacon Hills High.

It's different without my brother here. He moved because it had something to do with his girlfriend dying--I don't really know, he hates talking about it. Her name was Allison. He took it hard. Now I'm the only Lahey in Beacon Hills. I was offered a place at Scott Mccall's home. That's where Isaac had stayed when he was here, and since both my mom and dad are gone, I needed a place to stay, and Isaac really trusted Scott.

We'd met a few times and I was really close with him and his friend Stiles Stilinski. They were like older brothers to me, and constantly reminded me of Isaac.

I was dreading walking into school with my friends, Savannah and Amanda. But I walked into school anyway, mostly guided by the two Juniors.

At lunch I found myself staring at nothing.

"Katherine, stop staring."

"Huh?" I mumble, looking at Savannah.

"She always stares at him, Savi, its normal." Amanda says. I snap out of my daze and mutter under my breath, "Oh my god," when I realize what I'm doing. I go back to reading my book, blushing furiously.

"Kat, you have it bad." Savi laughs.

"Shut up." I joke. I can't believe I had been staring at him for an eternity. I hope he didnt notice...

Amanda leans across the table.
"Listen, Kat, we're going to lacrosse try outs today."

"What, why?" I ask her, looking up in confusion.

"So you can stare at him longer, why do you think?"
I groan at my friend.

"Kat, you're amazing at Lacrosse, you should try out."

I laugh, "They probably don't try out girls. All guys team, you know? Plus, it was my brother who had all the talent."

"Oh, shut up, you're just as good."

Later, after an okay first day, I find myself being dragged to the lacrosse feild. I can't believe they're doing this.

"Coach, coach!" Amanda yells and I am deeply regretting this. Savannah smiled at me, my stick in hand.

Coach Finstock turned, looking at the three of us.

"Lahey? What is it? This is try outs here!"

"Sorry, coach, it's nothing, we should go." I say, trying to leave but the other two grab me by the arms.

"Coach, we'd like to know if Katherine can try out for lacrosse this year?" Amanda asks for me sweetly.

"Wha- lacrosse?" he looks at me and i smile, "Uh, sure, why not. Get on the feild." he says rather loudly. I stand in shock for a second before I nod and get on the feild. I take my stick with me and stand by Scott and Stiles.

"K-Katherine? Uh, what the hell are you doin here?" Stiles asks, his voice going an octave higher than usual.

"Trying out, Stilinski."
I tell him, smirking. The two boys look at each other before I'm up. Of course I'm up like second. But I don't miss once. I feel good, adrenaline pumping. I turn, confidently, as I hear coach say, "Holy Hell." I smile and walk past Liam, who was looking at me in awe. I blushed.

"Um, what the hell was that?" Scott asks in an impressed tone, and I shrug.

Soon Liam's up and I watch carefully as he too made every shot. Scott and stiles? Lets just say they weren't the best.

"Scott, what's up with you? You were captain last year, were you not?" I say and he sighs, seemingly confused himself.

The rest of the try outs went well until Liam broke his leg. Well at least I thought he did.

I glare at scott and stiles, running up to him and leaning down.

"I'm okay, I'm okay." he says, getting up. He was not okay.

"We- we gotta get him to the hospital."

I rush him away - with the help of scott- before coach stops me.

"You did great today, Lahey."

I nod, "Thanks." I follow the three boys to the nurses office.

Savannah and Amanda wait outside. I come out of the nurses office and walk up to them.

"Sprained, for now." i say. They nod and i sit down by one of the nearest benches.

"Is he okay?" amanda asks.

I nod. "I think I'm gonna go with them to the hospital." I tell them and they nod.

"You were amazing." savannah says and i smile, "Thanks, Savi. I uh actually think thats them, ill call you later." I tell my friends.

I follow the three boys to Stiles' jeep. when inside, Liam glances at me.

"Why is she here?" he asks and i look up. Stiles looks at me through the mirror and answers, "Because she's more involved in this than you might think."

Liam looked confused but shrugged it off. Soon we arrived at the hospital. Stiles had to go- something about studying with his girlfriend Lydia Martin. He disapeared and i was left with Scott.

He was on the phone when the doctor walked out of Liam's room, and I went in.

"Uh, Liam, Hi." I say, smiling shyly.

"Hi. It's... it's Katherine right?"

I nod, wow he actually knew my name. I sit down in a chair by his bed. His leg looked horrible.

"I didn't know you played." He says.

"Yah, my brother taught me. You were pretty good." I answer, smirking slightly.

"Touche."

I laugh a little and look up to his eyes.

"Its quiet out there..." i start, getting up. He tries getting up as well.

"No, sit back down." i say, but he follows me out anyway.

The hallway looks deserted. I'm looking the other way when i push liam behind me. what i saw in front of me was a bloody boy who had razor sharp teeth and looked like he'd eaten someone.

I took out my claws and slashed him across his chest. I couldn't tell which blood was his and which was the other person's, but i could smell it. I could hear Liam shouting for me to run but I ignore him as the guy pushes me to a wall and I black out.

Next thing I know I'm on a roof. I look up to see Scott fighting the man, and the man being the bloody guy. All i see is a hand on the ledge, holding on for dear life. Who was it? And where was liam? I look around before swallowing hard... the hand was Liam.

I get up too quickly and see black spots all over. I can make out the two figures and see scott lean over. He bites something. What...? Oh my god, he bit liam.

I turn to hold on to something and when i turn back around, I can see there was a dead body on the floor. Liam was where I once sat. I run over to him, his hand was bloody and I could see bite marks. I turn to scott who was standing still in his alpha form.

I lean down and take his free hand, taking some of his pain. He looked at me confused and of all the times I could have blushed, I did now.

Only I was wondering one thing- was Liam going to die? Or was he going to turn?
