Build up to Money In The Bank

SmackDown Live found itself one week away from one of its "Big Four PPV's" Money in the Bank. Raw already had its go-home event and their superstars had been relaxing before they headed up to Chicago. However Team Blue's superstars had one last chance to make a big statement before the PPV. For the Women's Money in the Bank match, it had been Raw's Alexa Bliss, Sasha Banks, Ember Moon, Ruby Riott and for SmackDown it was represented by Becky Lynch, Mandy Rose, Lana and the former champion that was Charlotte Flair. For the Men's side of things it was Raw's Braun Strowman, Kevin Owens, Roman Reigns, Finn Balor and SmackDown's Rusev, Samoa Joe, Johnny Gargano and Trevion Butler. Now you may be asking why the Chosen Superstar of Destiny was in the ladder match, and it was because Trevion lost the WWE Championship to his main rival Shinsuke Nakamura. Originally Trevion was supposed to lose the title to Allen, however the Phenomenal One suffered a torn meniscus during a live tour so WWE had to make a change to those plans. Trevion dropped the championship to the heel in a dandy of a match and the lost the return match as planned by Creative. As also planned Trevion would earn his way onto the MITB card by defeating Big Cass, Miz and Daniel Bryan in a fatal four-way second chance gauntlet match with Trevion going wire-to-wire. Right now Trevion had been lacing up his boots after finishing a dark match to begin SmackDown Live, as he would be involved in a segment with Mandy Rose and Samoa Joe after the two confronted his girlfriend Charlotte Flair. Now let's get into the good part.

Tom Phillips: And we welcome to the go-home SmackDown Live before Money in The Bank; Welcome to the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee. Alongside Corey Graves and Byron Saxton, Tom Phillips. And guys we kick things off with Charlotte Flair one of the eight women participating in the Women's Money in the Bank Ladder Match.

Corey Graves: She has talked about it for weeks about how Money in the Bank is her road to redemption and how it would be ironic for her to cash in and get back to the top. We'll see if the Queen can deliver on her promise this Sunday.

Byron Saxton: I'm just glad to Queen is out here she always brightens my day.

Corey: I'm surprised that she doesn't have a restraining order against Saxton.

Charlotte: You know ever since that SmackDown Live last month where I lost my SmackDown Women's Championship, I'll admit to all of you fans I haven't been the Charlotte Flair you've come to cheer, you've come to boo or you've come to WOO! with. I was close to winning back my title at Backlash. But I took my eyes of the prize and it cost me in that moment. Now you guys know I'm not one to complain, I come in to work, I bust my ass off 24/7 to be the best dam wrestler and not just for my dad's sake no. You see I maybe the daughter to the 16-time World Champion, but I've also built quite the legacy myself wouldn't you guys agree.

The fans cheer for Ashley.

Charlotte: I'm the only women's superstar to be a Grand-Slam Champion, I've killed a streak, I've stepped inside the Devil's Playground and I've definitely had my fair share of dare-devil moments. But there is one thing that this Queen hasn't done.

Ashley stares up at both Money in the Bank Briefcases.

Charlotte: You know it's kind of funny it was that white and green briefcase that killed my first reign as SmackDown Women's Champion but now in that heartbreak I see redemption, I see a second chance, I see a chance a revenge, I see a golden opportunity to become a 2-time SMACKDOWN WOMEN'S CHAMPION!!!

THE FANS CHEER UNTIL GOLDEN GODDESS PLAYS TO THE BOOS OF THE WWE UNIVERSE.

Saxton: Leave it to--

Graves: Quiet Saxton you derelict God's Greatest Creation has come to grace us with her presence. You just sit there like the peasant like you are.

Phillips: Nonetheless, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville are out here tonight.

Mandy: Aww Charlotte, you complain about what Money in the Bank did to your title reign and now you're complementing Money in the Bank? I mean did Sonya knock your head in one too many times?

Charlotte: You're laughing sweetheart but who made your bestie tap out in the middle of this ring last week and denied her an opportunity at the Ladder Match. So you two little girls run to the back and let the adult talk to these wonderful fans here in Memphis, Tennessee!!!!

Everyone in the arena goes crazy until Sonya speaks.

Sonya: Soak it in you losers, this is the closest to glory you'll ever be because let's face it, your precious Memphis Grizzlies will NEVER win a championship!!!!

Destroyer plays throughout the arena to a mixed reaction more cheers than boos.

Crowd: Joe! Joe! Joe! Joe! Joe's gonna kill you! Joe's gonna kill you!

Joe: Ladies... Ladies... As riveting as this back and forth is, you all are boring me and these people to death. These people didn't come to hear fake promises like Roman Reigns being Universal Champion or empty threats like Johnny Gargano making me tap out. They came to see people get put to sleep and that's my specialty but I know my limits so if there's a willing victim to step in these ropes please do.

God Strong play to the enormous pop of the WWE Universe.

Trevion: Ladies and Joe, there's are an all-too perfect solution to all our solution. A mixed tag-team match. Charlotte and myself vs Joe and either one of you two talented women and I do use the word talented loosely.

Stars in the Night plays and Paige comes out.

Paige: Trevion, Charlotte, Mandy, Sonya and Joe. Calm down will the lot of you? I get everyone wants a tune-up before Money in the Bank so here's what I propose; A mixed tag-team match between Charlotte Flair and Trevion Butler versus Samoa Joe and Sonya Deville tonight. Mandy Rose will face Becky Lynch in a opportunity to soften up her opponent for MITB!!

Graves: General Manager Paige on fire tonight!!!!

Sonya Deville and Samoa Joe vs. Charlotte Flair and Trevion Butler.

From the very get-go, Joe and Deville wanted to establish early as they attacked the heroic superstars and sent Butler crashing through the announcer table. Flair quickly found herself outnumbered and for long it seemed Trevion wouldn't be cleared to return to compete. But the former WWE Champion being the gladiator he always is refuted any medical treatment and tagged himself and battled back. As the Chosen Superstar delivered a jaw-shattering superkick, Deville stopped Butler's onslaught but would be met with a spear from the Queen sending Charlotte and the Jersey Devil outside the ring. While Butler was distracted from the commotion, Joe snuck like the predator and cinched in the Coquina Clutch. Just when it looked like Butler was about to pass out from the python like grip of the Samoan Submission Machine, the Genetically Superior Superstar delivered a top rope moon-sault. This proved enough to throw Joe off as Butler would knee Joe in the face and delivered his own variation of Buddy Murphy "Murphy's Law" which Corey Graves called the Written Word for the pinfall victory. As the show went off the air, Butler retrieved two ladders, one for Flair and one for himself as they ascended the ladders and snatched the briefcases as an allusion as to what could happen at the Money in the Bank Pay-Per-View.

Grade: A+

Notes and Highlights:

We all know that Flair and Butler are dating off-screen so seeing some them paired is not only welcomed but is also a rarity since they're two of Team Blue's biggest players.

The odds of seeing both significant others walk out of Chicago with the briefcases is slim to none but never say never.

You can always count on Samoa Joe and Trevion Butler to deliver on a dangerous spot. Be it in a Extreme Rules match or something as unorthodox like our Mixed Tag Team Match these two always seem to be thinking the same thing as the other. A Summerslam or even a match inside Hell in a Cell is definitely on the horizon for these two.

We know their heels but she and Joe legitimately looked concern after Trevion went neck-first in the table.
