Thedric's POV

I can barely feel the throbbing of my hands as punch after punch lands on the boxing dummy in front of me. Just imagining my face on it gives me the strength to keep going. "You've failed. You've let down everyone. The pack, your family, the Moon Goddess. And worst of all our mate! God damn it!" I yell at myself like it will make a difference, but it just pisses me off more. What if she died? What if I never have a mate? If that is true at least the pack will be in good hands with Kolten. Kolten and and Kyrie are a strong pair and have a pup coming, they would make the pack stronger than I ever could alone.

Alone. The word causes a searing pain in my body. I feel like my body is on fire. "Sainy! Kolten! Training room now something's wrong." I call through the pack link for my Beta and pack doctor, whatever is happening isn't good. I'm naturally warm but the heat coursing through me is nothing I've ever experienced. I lay on the concrete floor hoping it'll help cool me down. I can hear the thudding of Kolten's feet but the heat keeps me from opening my eyes. "Alpha what happened?" The panic in Sainy's voice isn't something I'm familiar with or find comforting.

"I don't know. I was blowing off some steam and then out of nowhere I felt like my body was lit on fire." I open one eye only to see the look exchanged between the two of them, that's not reassuring.

"Thed can you walk?" Kolten asks helping me to my feet, I just nod.

"Alpha have you changed your routine lately? Come in contact with anything that could have caused this?" I shake my head focusing on keeping my balance as we make our way up the stairs in the pack house to her office. "Well what exactly happened when this started?" I take a deep breath, I don't like the pack seeing me weak but she is the doctor.

"I was working off some aggression after seeing Kolten and Kyrie together. I was going at the bag pretty hard, which is nothing new. I started thinking about my mate and how I've failed since I can't find her. I thought about how Kolten and Kyrie would be a good replacement if I never find her and my bloodline dies. Then I thought about how maybe she died and I'll never get to meet her." I drop my head in shame while the doctor examines me.

The silence just keeps stretching on but Sainy doesn't seem to be running any tests. I look up and she and Kolten are just staring at me with a look of complete horror. Oh God. "What? What's wrong?" I jump to my feet, using my Alpha voice on them.

"I...I think I know whats happening. But you aren't going to like it." I grab her shoulders feeling the fire raging inside.

"I need to know!"

"Your mate is dying!" Sainy blurts out so fast I almost don't hear it.

"What do you mean?" She can't be right.

"You're feeling her pain as she passes away. It seems like her soul is calling out to you. Trying to hang on. Death of mates are usually quick when unmated. She's fighting. But I can't tell you how long she has." Shock. That's all I feel. Well that and pure terror.

Without realizing it I take off out the front door. Leaping off the porch I shift into my wolf. Sorry Thedric but I couldn't just let you stand there while our mate dies. I had to take over. My wolf has been dormant for years, it started to feel like I had lost him.

I understand. Thank you and honestly I'm glad you aren't gone. But I think I can take it from here. Don't need you doing something to expose us.

The feeling of my paws pounding on the ground starts as soft pins as needles. But as control of my body comes back so does the burning in my veins. Wraith can you feel that? His affirmation only worries me more. The fire gets stronger as we reach the outskirts of the neighboring town. I stay close to the trees since it's daylight out but I need to find her. I check to see if the coast is clear to run to an alley across the street, but someone jumps in front of me. Looking up it's Kolten, "Shift. I have clothes, we can do this as humans way easier." He holds up a shirt and some jeans. Huffing I nod and shift. He's right. I take the jeans, roughing pulling them on and put the shirt on as I run across the street to the alley.
