This was the best moment of my life, since the end. I get to stay! I finally get to be safe. I can let my guard down here. I can live here. I can have a life here.
Maggie and Carol came around passing out some kind of meat to everyone . I looked down at my plate and silently ate, not speaking unless spoken to first. I was never good in social situations.
Carl, still holding on to my hand under the table, leaned in and whisperd, " You can talk if you want, you know."
"its ok. " I whisperd back, letting go of his hand. Carl shot me a look that seemed wierd and disappointed.
Everything was silent again exept people chewing.
" so Ilisa, where are your parents." Rick asked trying to be polite.
" Dead." I said unphased. Everyone stopped eating and stared at me.
"im so sor........." someone began to say.
"Save it. " I interjected. " im suprised they lasted as long as they did. "
"What do you mean?" Rick asked, everyone at the table listening now.
" lets say they we'rnt survivle savy."
"what. I dont understand. " Maggie said hugging Hershel.
" well I was into survivle, I read booked had a stock pile of goods, everything. They didnt like it though. they said I shouldnt of spent some much time prepping for some danger that never was gonna happen. so they took all my prep stuff and told me to stop." I said not looking at anyone else. they where silent. " they never cared to think of a plan or prepare, so they didnt last."
" oh. " Rick said. "Well, sence you dont have parents, I dont know what I should do with you."
" Wait, I thought you said I could stay here, be apart of your group." I said, clearly worried.
Rick chuckled. " No, your stayin I mean whos gonna be in charge of you. like a guardian."
"how about nobody." I said.
" I think mabey Carol."
" im fine Rick, I really dont need anyone. ive lasted this long alone."
" yea and look at you. you curse like Daryl."
" sorry. " I said.
" its fine. we just need someone teaching you lessons and giving you rules."
" I understand, but I just dont nee...."
" Ill do it. " Daryl said looking awkward.
"Really. " Rick said skeptically.
" ya." Daryl said. " she's clearly a bad ass. plus, ive always wanted a daughter."
"Aw really? " Maggie and Carol asked almost in unison. everyone seemed confused. I guess he isnt so touchy feely.
" Fuck no. i aint ever wanted no daughter. " He laughed, " but ill take her."
