Morning breached through the creases of my curtains and the sun painted a beautiful color on my wall. It was morning, yet I still had not slept. My mind was stuck on the fact that Daniel was here last night, which meant he heard Mike making love to me, something that would not sit well with him. At least now I know I wasn't seeing things when I thought I saw a shadow. My biggest problem was not that Daniel had found me but the realization that if he did, Martel could. That's if he didn't already and was just waiting on the perfect opportunity to act.
Mike's body shifted under mine as he arose from his sleep. "Good morning," I cooed as I kissed him on his cheek. "Good morning," he replied stroking my hair, "what time is it?" I stretched for my phone. "7:45."
"Shit, I gotta get to work," he said as he flied out of bed. He grabbed his clothes, and hurriedly put them on, "I got to get home, shower, change, maybe grab something to eat," he mumbled to himself as he got dressed, my eyes following him every way. "I'll see you later hon." He placed a kiss on my forehead and he was out the door. Little did I know that that would be the last time I'd be seeing him.
I flopped back down in the bed and stared at my ceiling noticing for the first time that there was a crack, and all I could think about was Daniel. Buried feelings started to reemerge, and I began to feel anxious. It was definitely Gunz I saw then. An idea came to me, what if I went back to the bar? Is there a chance I could see Gunz again? I could question him. As the sun fully took over my room, I closed my eyes and sleep welcomed me.
I opened my eyes and stretched as I attempted to get off the bed. The sore between my legs reminded me of the activities of last night and I sighed. I sat on my bed staring at my floor for what felt like 20 minutes. After getting the sleep out my system, I went to take a shower. I didn't have much to do today but a plan was brewing. I messaged Anna and asked her if she'd like to go out tonight, to a bar, the same bar place I saw Gunz, but I didn't mention that part. Of course, she'd be up to it, Anna was a party girl and it was a Friday night. I walked to my fridge to get some water and I saw the chain, still laying in the center of the counter. I left it there. I'm afraid to touch or move it and I don't know why. I was a bit hungry and there was not much food in the house, I decided to call Mike. Maybe he'd like to split a pizza with me. I ringed him and there was no answer. That was strange, he always answered me on the second ring. I tried calling 3 more times, no answer. I figured he was just busy, so I ordered the pizza on my own and went to watch a movie on my laptop. The pizza arrived, and I thanked the boy. That's when I realized that it has been 4 days since I've last been to the café. I chuckled to myself thinking of how much Erin probably missed taunting me low-key. I decided I'd stop by tomorrow. Not for Erin, but for sake of routine.
My phone blinked 7:30 and it was time to get ready. I needed to be early to catch the bar. At 8:15 a text came in from Anna. Jan dear, I cannot make it. Seems as if I have the stomach flu. Don't let me stop you though, go out and enjoy yourself <3
I was disappointed, but I definitely was not going to cancel on myself now, furthermore I was almost ready and what a waste it would be to not wear the cute dress I bought at the mall. I was ready by 8:45 and Tega and I were on our way. After a long journey I pulled up at the restaurant and headed to the bar. I ordered two beers, it was the same bartender. He looked around as if to look for Mike, "I'm alone tonight," I laughed. I began to look out. After 20 minutes, I turned to the bartender.
"Do you remember when I was in here the other night," I questioned, although I already knew he did.
"Yes ma'am, you were here with a man, a dark man." He replied, his country accent was thick.
"That same night a man came in an ordered a Moscow Mule with extra lime juice, is he a regular?"
"Yes mam, drinks here ere' night...as a matter a fact, he just walked in," he responded pointing to Gunz.
Gunz looked our way and turned out the door. "GUNZ!" I screamed, running out the door after him.
I looked up and down the street and I didn't see him. Before I could turn to go back in the bar a voice behind me said, "Why are you here Abby?"
I attempted to look around to face him, but he stopped me. "Let's go for a ride."
He used his hand to guide me to his car and ushered me to the passenger seat, and went around to the driver's side. After 5 minutes of silence, which felt like 20, he spoke again. "Why are you trying to find me Abby?"
"What do you mean why am I trying to find you? Why are you here? Why is Daniel here!?" I shrieked.
"Calm down Abbigale, don't take that tone with me," he said calmly and softly, "how do you know Jet's here?"
"He broke into my apartment... he left me a sign," I watched Gunz face as I replied. Emotionless.
"So why didn't you try to find him instead?"
"Why would I try to find him if I was running from him...from Martel...why is he here Gunz? Why did he come looking?"
"Ask yourself that question, did you really expect him not to look?"
I was silent. Of course I knew Daniel would look for me. He needed me.
"Are you both here together? Same business?"
"Would you think we'd both be in Florida coincidentally?"
I was silent for a while and he turned to look at me.
"We aren't supposed to be having this conversation. I was hoping it'd be Jet you'd get to speak to first."
I kept silent.
After a while I decided to speak, "Where are we going?"
"To see Jet."
We took turns on roads that seemed familiar. After a few more minutes I realized that this was the route I took to go to Sunrise Enco. We passed the company and drove a few minutes more and turned into a well-established apartment complex. "You guys are staying here?"
He nodded.
"Usually when you guys are just here for business, you never stay places this fancy or well known."
"Maybe we're not here for just business...or maybe we're going to be here for a while."
He led me out of the car and we walked all the way to the back of the complex to a private elevator. The elevator led us to a top floor and when we arrived there were only two rooms on the floor. One for him and one for Daniel I assumed. As we walked to the door furthest on the hall my heart started to race. I could hear every beat with every step I took, and my palms started to sweat. We reached the door and Gunz stopped and did what would look like a special knock and the door opened; standing there was Daniel 'Jet' Harrington in all his grace. "Hello Abby."
