Glancing at each other then looking around, checking that the coast is clear, again they look at each other, relief clear on both their faces as they cautiously tread forward, attempting to avoid any branches that may snap with the slightest pressure. Dense air flows through their lungs, shallow breaths escaping her slightly parted lips as bird's twitter and squirrels race up trees to avoid unwanted trouble. Still walking forward, the pair glance around every now and then still checking that they are clear of a pursuit, though their hopes don't last for long as he quickly ducks into the opening of a bush that's to our left. Shock overwhelms her as she stares at him with a quizzical expression, however the rapid footsteps of the guy chasing them causes her to follow suit.
Quickly he moves closer to their protection, walking around them, calling their names whilst looking around the more obvious places to find them. A worried expression crosses her face as she looks at her companion when he walks directly in front of them, though his eyes lazily glance at the bush taking no notice of what may be hidden within the hollow space. On que, he begins walking again, just as cramp shoots through her leg and up into her hip. she knows she needs to shift her weight, yet the enclosed space leaves little room to manoeuvre out of her crunched position. Holding still for a few seconds longer and she can't hold her position for another moment. Slowly, she leans back against the damp branch that's perched behind her back, hoping it's strong enough to hold her weight for the few seconds it will take to move. With a triumphant breath, she switches legs only to place the newly positioned leg directly on a twig that snaps like a bone. Rapidly, the foot steps return, and he is stood to the left of the entrance, glancing around with more precision than the last. A grunt leaves his mouth as he, once again, fails to look in the right area. Her friend looks at her with disappointment and a hint of anger as he mouths the words "Idiot, you nearly got us caught". As a response she gives an apologetic smile, but he looks at her for a second and then around to where a red silhouette can be seen through the thin shrub just before the bush. Quickly she looks at him, her eyes pleading, begging for him not to do what his eyes are saying and before she can say anything he yells "OI".
Silence falls over everything in that moment, as if time had slowed down, yet the footfalls seemed louder than ever. For the third time, he stands in front of them, only for a few seconds though, before briskly walking of in the other direction. She breathes out, looking at him with pure hatred in her eyes before quietly walking to the entrance of the hide out, checking that he's out of sight and hearing range. Taking a step out of the bush, she walks forward, remembering the map of the area she had implanted in her head as to where she can hide - areas that lead to quick escapes and others that lead to nothing but dead ends. As she continues to walk forward she could hear light, experienced foot falls behind her before a slight chuckle flows through her ears, "You were so scared" he laughs, "I didn't realise you could hold so much anger in just one look" again he laughs, only harder this time. Taking time to think of possible ways to murder the child that's stood behind her, she decides to ignore him and continue to walk up the hill the straight path had bought us to. More bushes lie ahead of them with stinging nettles and thorny stems acting as a shield.
Walking for a few minutes they came to an opening in which there's a chair facing another hollow area. Before she could utter a word, he sits in the chair with a smirk as he watches her walk over to a fallen tree. Looking toward the floor, she decides that silence would be best as the surrounding of the guy following them is unknown, though, she knows that Dan has a decent view of the paths near to the they we just followed. I can feel his eyes on me and slowly I look up, "What are you looking at?" For the second time he chuckles "Nothing"
"Of course," my voice dripping with sarcasm, "I supposed you were just staring at the beautiful fallen trees that – "
"Shhh" the harshness of his warning startles her into an obedient silence. Stealthily, he begins to move to the path we climbed. He stills, watching the movements of the red silhouette like a lion. Languidly, she walk toward him, ensuring a quick escape if a chase begins.
