The bass of the loud music pulses through my body and my head is slightly fuzzy. I didn't drink as often as my friends did, but tonight was an exception.
It was Brenden's birthday, one of my best friends. The house he lives in is huge and he planned quite the party for himself. I didn't know the majority of the people here which could easily amount to the whole student body of the university he went to.
"Alivia," Brenden's brother, Chase slurs as he staggers towards me.
"Hey," I lift my red cup to my mouth and take a swig of my drink. Apparently there was whiskey mixed in my soda but I couldn't even taste it anymore.
"Where are your little friends?" He playfully bumps my arm and spills my drink. I sigh and stare down at the dark liquid covering my white shirt.
"That's a good question, I'm gonna go find them." I sarcastically smile as I hurry away from him. It's not that I didn't like Chase, but he had a reputation. One that I wasn't about to get involved in just because he's attractive and showing me attention.
I'd like to thank that I had a pretty good head on my shoulders. I was always a good kid, I don't do drugs, I don't drink often. I'm taking classes to become a medical assistant. Things were going well for me.
"Alivia!" Brenden sings as he squints to see me from across the kitchen.
"Where have you been?" Our other best friend, Sophia asks me.
Brenden is sitting on the kitchen counter and Sophia is resting between his legs as they both stare at me.
"Your brother was hitting on me," I laugh and lean against the opposite counter.
"He's a pig." Brenden snorts and Sophia and I laugh in unison.
"The guy that I invited just showed up," Brenden whisper-yells and shoves Sophia out of the way. I look back to see an eager Brenden walk towards a blonde haired boy standing awkwardly by the front door.
"You still plan on getting some tonight?" Sophia asks as she shimmy's her chest at me. I had told her and Brenden that I just wanted to sleep with someone already, to get it over with since I was obviously never going to end up in a real relationship. Each time I put myself out there, I ended up regretting it. I'm twenty years old and I'm still a virgin. Who says your first time has to be something magical and meaningful? I've definitely let that thought go.
"After the way that Chase just drunkenly came on to me, I think I'll pass." I laugh and take another sip of my drink. The wet spot on my shirt was mostly dry now and I was a little too tipsy to care about the stain.
"What about him?" Sophia points behind me and I turn to see a handsome guy leaning against the far wall of the living room. His black hair is styled perfectly and he's wearing a leather jacket. I can't help but notice how his head tilts back and his eyes squeeze shut whenever he laughs. Whatever the people around him were talking about must've been hilarious.
I found myself wishing I was one of those people, laughing and breathing in the same air as him.
Alcohol has officially turned me in to a creep.
"Alivia?" Sophia's voice chirps in my ear and I jump slightly, turning towards her.
"You were totally checking him out!" She teases and I take a large gulp of my mixed drink.
"What'd I miss?" Brenden chimes in and Sophia begins speaking before I can say anything.
"Alivia was checking out that dude over there!"
I swat at Sophia's hand as she points to the guy that I was staring at a few moments ago. "Well he's coming over here," Brenden whispers.
"Probably because Sophia keeps pointing at him," I playfully scold her and she wiggles her eyebrows at me.
