The next day, I am laying on my bed reading a book about a naive girl that falls for a horrendous boy with evil intentions.
My phone begins to buzz and it pulls me from one of the most interesting parts of the book.
It's Chase.
"Hello?" I say quietly into the phone.
"Hey, Alivia." The smile is evident in his voice, "I was wondering if you had any plans tonight?"
I look down at the book and tilt my head to the side, debating on if I could wait to continue reading it.
"I'm free tonight," I finally say.
"Okay great, I'll pick you up around 7:00."
He tells me that he can't wait to see me and I smile to myself as we get off the phone. I already showered this morning which makes it easier for me to get up and get ready. I straighten my hair and apply some make up before walking in to my closet and scanning over everything I own. I had no idea what I should be dressing for.
I pick up my phone and check the time, it is now 5:47. I have a little over an hour.
I decide to text Chase.
To: Chase
What should I wear?He immediately replies
From: Chase
Something comfortable. You look good in anything. (;I bite my lip and stare at my phone before glancing at my closet again. It's been getting colder outside as fall is coming to an end so I decide to wear a pair of black skinny jeans with a grey crop top.
I pull on my white converse and throw on a jacket to complete the look. I could have worn something nicer, but he said something comfortable. So I decided to go with a cute comfortable.
I glance at my appearance in the mirror and can't help but thank of the guy from the other night. The way he smelt of cologne and cigarettes.
I reach up and brush my neck with my fingers as I remember the feeling of his lips on my skin.
I blink a few times and attempt to shake the thoughts from my head as I leave my room and head downstairs. The last thing I needed to be doing was thinking about someone so cruel and heartless.
"Where are you going?" My mothers voice invades my thoughts and I snap my head in her direction. She's sitting on the couch, staring at me as I stand in the doorway of the living room.
"Chase asked me out," I smile at her and her features brighten immediately.
"Chase? Brenden's brother?"
"Mmhmm," I hum as I walk in to the kitchen and get a glass of water.
"Where is he taking you?" She smiles while leaning on the counter. I knew she liked him and had always hoped we would end up together. Brenden and Chase's parents have quite a bit of money and of course, Chase is very attractive. It would be all a mother could ask for if I ended up with someone as 'perfect' as him.
Too bad she doesn't know about his awful reputation with women. But I was determined to give him a chance. It's just one date.
"I'm not sure," I shrug and set my empty glass in the sink.
A knock at the door signals that it's time for me to leave so I kiss my mothers cheek on my way out.
"Hey," Chase smiles down at me as I step outside. He's wearing a pair of jeans and a grey long sleeve shirt that matched the crop top I was wearing.
"Hi." I say and he turns to walk towards the car. He had the same type of car as Brenden, but this one is more sporty.
"I hope you like Mexican food." He smiles while his eyes are glued to the road ahead.
"It's my favorite," I smile at him and he nods.
"I know."
"You do?" I raise an eyebrow and he glances at me for a second before answering me.
"I may have asked Brenden." He chews on his bottom lip and I look down at my lap. I couldn't help but think of how thoughtful it was of him to ask his brother where we should go, just so I'd be happy.
I smile over at him and he smirks back at me.
He pulls the car in to a parking spot and we both get out, meeting at the front of the car to walk inside together. His fingers gently brush against mine as we walk side by side towards the entrance of the restaurant.
Once we are inside and waiting to be seated, I'm pleased to see that it's a casual restaurant which makes me feel less self conscious about the outfit I picked. It was cute but not something for a fancy dinner or an extravagant night out.
We are seated at a booth and Chase and I sit across from each other, reading our menus.
Every now and then I see his eyes pop up from the top of his menu, going cross-eyed and I giggle.
He was being silly and trying to make me laugh, it was a side of Chase that I hadn't really seen in my many years of being his brothers best friend.
He orders some type of burrito and I order a meal with chicken and vegetables served over a bed of rice.
"How's college?" I ask after taking a sip of my Pepsi.
He finishes chewing the food in his mouth before answering me, "it's going well, I graduate in May."
"Oh wow," I say while moving the rice around on my plate. I forgot that he's a few years older than me.
He hums in response while taking a drink.
Chase clears his whole plate and I eat the majority of my food before we are both full and ready to leave. When the waitress brings our check, she hands it to me but Chase immediately snatches it from my hand and I laugh.
"I can pay for it," I say with an eyebrow raised and he chuckles at me.
"Let me buy a pretty girl some food, sheesh."
I feel the heat rush to my cheeks as I watch him place the money along with the tip on the table.
"Ready?" He asks and I nod eagerly. Dinner went surprisingly well and I couldn't wait to see what else he had planned for us this evening.
We aren't in the car long before we pull up in front of a large house.
He turns the car off and steps out so I follow him, immediately hearing loud music booming from the house.
No no no. Why would he bring me to a party?
He begins walking but stops once he realizes that I am frozen in the street, staring at the large house. He reaches his hand out for me and I blink rapidly as my eyes finally tear away from the house in front of us.
I hesitantly reach forward and take his hand and he smiles sweetly at me while continuing to walk forward.
How bad could it be?
I take a deep breath and take quick steps to match his large ones as we walk up to the front door and step inside.
The music is loud and vibrating throughout my entire body but that's not what has me on edge. It's all the people turning to stare at Chase and I while we stand at the front door hand in hand.
This is what I meant by Chase having an awful reputation.
