The moment the cart driver dropped Du Keishi off, he sped away, fearing that the movement would draw a powerful beast.
Meanwhile, Du Keishi took a deep breath, enjoying the fresh and ancient smell that came with the forest. The density of Qi was much higher here, enabling faster cultivation. The fourth level of the Blood Sapling stage would come with time, so Du Keishi didn't actively spend all of his time cultivating.
Actually, instead of a place meant to increase pure cultivation, this was meant more to increase Du Keishi's comprehension of his martial arts.
First things first, Du Keishi wanted to increase his speed, and to do so, he had to increase his comprehension of the Falling Wind Strides and the Profound Cloud Steps to the Essence level. the was a difficult task to achieve without being in life-and-death situations, so it was slightly unrealistic to aim for the Essence level in either of the skills, let alone both.
First, the Falling Wind Strides were useful for running away, something that Du Keishi would likely have to do quite often if he provoked a powerful beast. So Du Keishi began to practice that.
He breezed through the success stage, fighting beasts that specialized in speed to increase his skill in the movement technique. Within a month, he reached the pinnacle of the Success stage. His movement was much smoother than before, not to mention faster and took far less energy.
Knowing that the insight for the Falling Wind Strides could only be gained through luck, Du Keishi set the skill off to the side for that time and began to practice the Profound Cloud Steps.
To do this, he fought beasts that excelled in close combat and agility, never hitting them once but constantly dodging.
But one day, well into the second month, Du Keishi had bitten off more than he could chew. Wanting to stretch himself to the limits, he began to fight a Violet Waves Leopard, unaware of its specialty.
The fight started off rather easily but quickly grew next to impossible. See, the Violet Waves Leopard was famous for becoming stronger the longer it fought. Du Keishi naturally wanted to drag on the fight as long as possible, so he allowed the beast to become comparable to a Heaven's Grove cultivator. Thankfully, it did not have the insight of one, or the intelligence of one, so it only knew to run at its top speed when Du Keishi began to run using Falling Wind Strides. The reason it didn't let Du Keishi go, despite being an innately calm and relatively gentle creature, was that Du Keishi had aggravated and frustrated it by dodging every one of its attacks, also wounding its pride. This naturally did not bode well for Du Keishi.
