Ezra breathed aa sigh of relief as they reached the cabin safely. Snow had started to fall ten minutes ago and already a thick blanket covered the ground. He grabbed a sleeping Logan and carried him inside almost slipping as he unlocked the door. He turned on the heater as he started a fire as well and placed his son on the couch in front of it as he went to gather the groceries they got in town.
He was putting them away when Logan came stumbling half asleep into the kitchen and leaned himself on Ezra's leg. Yawning and trying to keep his eyes open. Ezra put away the last of their food and grabbed Logan and placed him on his hip. Logan layed his head on his shoulder and began to fall asleep before Ezra even made it to the staircase. He opened the first door on his right. The guest room, now Logan's room.
Ezra drew back the covers, pulling them up again once he had Logan settled. He kissed his forhead and left for his room leaving the door open in case Logan needed him.
He all but collapsed on the bed. His body was lagging so much from sleep deprivation that he only had enough energy to kick off his shoes before he passed out.
He was woken up by quiet sobs coming from his doorway. He looked at the clock, four-oh-five. He looked at his crying son and stood up from the bed and went to him. "What's wrong buddy?" he asked his voice foggy from sleep.
"I-I had a n-nightmare," he said through his sobs.
Ezra just nodded and grabbed Logan in his arms carrying him back to his bed.
Logan cuddled into Ezra's chest, "Daddy?" he said.
Half asleep he replied, "Yeah buddy?"
"I love you daddy," he whispered almost afraid Ezra wouldn't respond.
He just paused for a moment taken aback, "I love you too buddy. Get some sleep."
Ezra awoke in a frenzy similar to the one he had the first morning he had Logan. He calmed down a bit realising he was probably outside running. That thought had him running downstairs double time. This cabin didn't have a fenced area anywhere.
He ran outside and checked the immediate area but saw no sign of him. He sprinted back inside and grabbed his gear. He was about to start looking to his right when a frightened howl rang out behind him.
That was all it took for him to see red. He took off in that direction for once in his life he relished the feeling of killing someone. If that someone was harming his Logan. He stopped when he heard whimpering and strained to hear what direction it was coming from. He ran into a clearing covered in white from the flurry that happened late last night.
In the middle was his little pup cowering away from what looked to be a pack wolf. And a highranking one at that. Quite possibly a beta.
Ezra walked stealthily behind it not making a sound. Once he was close enough he pulled my leg back and kicked with everything he had. You would think he wouldn't have gone far but werewolves were surprisingly light creatures.
The wolf flew a good fifteen foot away. He crouched over Logan as the werewolf stood and boy did he look pissed. But that faded when he saw that Ezra was protecting the wolf below himself with everything he had.
He made to take a step closer but stopped when he lifted a gun to his head. He lowered his ears to show he didn't mean any harm but he still held the gun straight at his head. He perked his ears up suddenly as if he just realised something important.
With that he turned around and ran the opposite direction of the cabin thankfully. He stopped and turned at the tree line to stare for a few seconds before he turned back around and disappeared.
