Earth

I lay on the wet grass,

Sipping Cola from a cold glass.

I feel the rain dripping on my head,

Oh, how I longed to be resting in my bed.

Yet I feel paralyzed to stay,

Gaze at the sky all day.

I realise the world's a beautiful place,

Love every nation, every colour, every race.

I hear my mother calling me in,

I try to leave, but I wanna stay deep within.

My toes wet, in the grass so green,

Getting dark, 7:15.

I slowly start to get up,

Wash myself in the bathtub.

Mother gets angry at my dirty clothes,

She just cares, that's all it shows.

Father comes back from work an hour early,

Wet from the rain, his hair becomes curly.

I give him a hug and a kiss,

He bought me a bracelet for my wrist.

I hear thunder and lightening,

Our embrace is tightening.

He tells me not to worry,

I go to my bedroom in a hurry.

I throw the covers above my head,

I remember what my parents said,

"After every terrible storm,

A rainbow arrives, all nice and warm.

There's no such thing as a never-ending flood,

No such thing as drowning in mud."

Their words echo in my brain,

That's when I can no longer hear the rain.

Slowly it stops, then all at once,

Like the prey's heart of a lion that hunts.

I peek out and see a rainbow,

I think how I love this Earth so.
