*Chapter 10*
Kane let Hero drop from his shoulder onto the bed. It knocked the wind out of her. She glared up at her captor, imaging all sorts of grotesque methods of torture she would use on him once she had the upper hand. Oh, he would pay. And she’d make sure of it.
But for the main time, she focused her eyes on his. Or tried. A difficult act that she had to reach deep into her soul to find. He was standing stark naked in front of her in all his delicious manly glory, and he didn’t seem bothered by it. Not in the least. She would catch her eyes pivoting away from his, but she’d quickly center them back on his eyes. Eyes that regarded her with sensual interest and something else she couldn’t decipher.
Kane grinned down at her, succeeding in infuriating her more. She was seriously pissed at him, he could smell her anger. Somehow, that amused him.
His eyes travelled up her beautiful, long legs and stopped when he found her skirt halfway up her thighs. More than halfway. He could see the outline of her panties. His brow twitched; she was wearing black panties.

*Chapter 11*
Hero stared at the food they’d brought her with cold eyes, wishing that she had superman’s laser-eyes. She wasn’t going to touch it even if they gave her a million.
The girl who brought it to Hero seemed nice enough, but she wasn’t going to risk it. It could have been poisoned for all she knew. And just the mere thought that more people other than Kane and that girl had broken into my house gave her the strength to stay away from it and ignore the pleas her stomach was issuing.
How many more were there? And what had happened to Jeff and George and Tallulah? Oh God, where was her cousin?
She had to get out of her room and go look for her cousin and bodyguards, but Kane made damn sure this time there was no way for her to escape.
Should I...? No, not yet. I’m going to use that method another time, she decided.
Hours passed by, and Hero was still locked in her own room with nothing to do. She was worried sick about Tallulah. George and Jeff? Not so much. They could handle themselves well, and she knew it.
What did Kane want from her? She didn’t know. Unless it had something to do with her father….
Did her father know what had become of her? Doubtful, since he was busy sealing a deal with some other arms company. Was it money Kane was after? To demand a ransom from her father for her life? It didn’t seem like it, since all he seemed to want to do was talk. It didn’t seem like he would blow the way he did earlier either. White feathers lay all around the room, a reminder of Kane’s other side.
He cannot be trusted.
Laying her head on her pillow after brushing the feathers away, Hero decided to rest her eyes for a little bit. She closed her eyes, and then sailed away on the ship that would take her to the realm of dreams.
-----------------------------------
Kane still didn’t know what had happened to him back in Hero’s room. How could he have lost it like that in front of Hero? Now there was no possible way that she would ever trust in him. He’d seen the fear in her eyes, tasted it at the tip of his tongue, and smelled it in the air.
But she was part to blame too! She was the one who disrespected him! And no one disrespected Kane, especially not his mate. An Alpha demanded respect and full obedience from his pack, or the ones soon to be. She shouldn’t have thrown the pillow at him.
