People say that there's good and bad in every person. But what if one person is completely, utterly evil? Will never redeem themselves? What about a guy who indiscriminately rapes vulnerable girls? Do you think there's any good left in that asshat of a person?

Timeline of the chapter: the week after the people on the tapes have received subpoenas. November-ish. (Info: Hannah died in October 2017)

It's Monday. Julia is at school and unhappy about the fact that Clay's mom, Mrs. Jensen, who's a really nice lady, will be fighting for the school, against the Bakers, in their case against Liberty High and The Evergreen County School District.

"Why is your mom on their side, Clay? I'm sure she's a heck of a lawyer but if she's on their side, this fuckin school and the messed up little shits that study in it, will not be brought to justice. Can't to tell her what those bastards did to Hannah?"

"It's not like she wants to... It's just the school hired her firm and she works for it so obviously she has to fight whatever case that lands on her lap."

"Dammit, Clay!"

"I know. I know."

This snippet from her conversation with Clay keeps repeating itself in her mind. She's puts away her algebra textbook in her locker and fiddles around with some other stuff that's also inside it. Scotty Reed; baseball and football team player, full-of-bullshit jock, comes up to her. He stands on the other side of her locker door, leaning against a couple of blue lockers, so that her locker door is between him and Julia. She notices this but only his dirty-blonde hair is visible to her over the top of the locker.

"Hey." he says.

"What do you want, Reed? 'Cause if it's English notes, then you're not getting them." she says pulling another textbook out of the locker.

"Nah... I-I just wanted to talk to you."

"Oh why's that?" she says, her voice filled with sarcasm.

"Well, I think you're really pretty."

She scoffs. "Wow. Who put you up to this? Walker? De La Cruz?" she says slamming the locker shut and staring him in the eyes.

"Wha- Where'd you even get that idea?"

"So I take it as a yes. Fun dare huh? Charming your way into my pants?" she says cocking her left eyebrow up.

"No!" he says defensively. "I came here all on my own, okay? No one put me up to it."

"Yeah... somehow I find that very hard to believe." she says and turns to walk away.

"Why the hell do you think that every guy is a bad guy?!" Scott asks angrily which stops her in her tracks.

"Why do you think that every guy who approaches you wants for your body, and not for your personality?" he says, her back still facing him.

She whips her head around and says,
"Not every guy, Reed. Just all the guys on the baseball team."

"Wha- not all of us are jerks okay?"

She turns around completely to face him now. "Yeah... Look, you don't seem too up to date on this so let me tell you; Jeff Atkins was, the only guy on the baseball team, who was actually a good person and, he's dead. If you don't know about the things that your stupid fucking teammates do, then you're moronically stupid or as observant as a blind person. And I think you're neither, which means that you're complicit in their activities. So don't even try to talk to me.

"Wait... cmon... I-"

"Let me save you the trouble." she cuts him off. "Goodbye Reed. I hope I don't see you again soon." she says, flicking her fingers up and down twice, as if to do a sarcastic wave.
