Heart to Heart

    Adam pulled into her driveway shortly 10 o’clock hoping she was home and that he wasn’t interrupting anything. He had considered just calling her, but she only lived a few blocks away from Rachel, so he figured he’d just stop by.

    “Adam?” Val asked, surprised to see him at the door.

    “Yeah, hey, umm..I can come back later?” he replied, considering Val was in her bathrobe with puffy eyes and mascara running down her face.

    “No, no. I’m fine.” she said, embarrassed. “I’m assuming it’s kind of important.” she wiped away her leftover tears.

    “It’s Rachel.” Adam sighed, plopping down on the end of her couch.

    “Ohmigod, I can’t believe you fucked her!” Val exclaimed, hitting him on the shoulder.

    “Ow! No! Who said anything about fucking her? I have some morals!”

    “You’re a fuck buddy now, you’re in no position to claim morals.” She rolled her eyes. “Well? What happened?”

    “See, I’m kind of failing anatomy, so-”

    “Adam, the point of this story please!”

    “We kissed!” He said. “No, rephrase that; she kissed me.”

    “What?!”

    “It just happened! I didn’t kiss her back...mostly. I don’t know. I don't know!”

    “What a slut. I can’t believe she actually did it.”

    “Wait, you knew about this?”

    “No. Well. Yes. She told me that she had this sex dream about you and that she all of the sudden out of nowhere thought you were hot and apparently decided she actually wanted to have sex with you, which was beyond me, but I was pissed cause I knew that was a terrible idea and would hurt Jules,” Val explained “I mean..I thought out of respect for their friendship, she’d let it go, but holy shit...she really kissed you!”

    “She wants to have sex with me?” Adam asked.

    “Of course that was the only part of that you heard.” Val rolled her eyes.

    “Eww...”

    “Adam. Focus.”

    “Well what am I supposed to say to Julia, Val? I need you to tell me what to do.”

    “Oh no no no no. I do not need to be put in the middle of this. Rachel already hates me right now.”

    “Please Val?” He pleaded. She could see in his eyes he was conflicted. “I need you.”

    “Well. You have to tell her.” Val sighed, after her moment of thinking silence passed.

    “You think?”   

    “Absolutely. You know she’ll be pissed if she finds out from somebody else, and you know how fast Rachel’s shit gets around.”

    “Okay, you’re right. I’ll tell her.” Adam said, “Tomorrow.”

    “Adam.”

    “Tonight? Come on, Val. Too soon.”

    “Yes, tonight.”

    “...Fine. Tonight.”

    “Thank you.” she rolled her eyes.

    “Before I go though...Are you okay?”
