You told me to make it based off of the gates of heaven, so the first thing that came to mind was how husks are created.
Husks, as you may or may not know, are the souls of people who died at a young age. They were created by the three protectors of the land. These were The Collector, The Gifter, and The Punisher. These three saw the young die, and wanted them to see the world as they see it. So, they created the bodies, made of fire and wood, and put the souls inside.
Now you might be wondering "Wate but y te fuk te hads?" And to that I says, it's The Collector, and you needs hands to collect stuf.
The Collector collects the souls to The Gifter and The Punisher so the soul can be judged. If the soul is worthy, they become a husk. If they aren't worthy, they are left as souls to roam the world.
