In the past———

I rolled over, waking myself up as I ended up rolling off the small bed in the corner of my room.
There was another knock on the door, after the one that initially stirred me in the first place.
The multiple locks were unlocked on the door before the familiar face entered the room.
"Good morning Jungkook." The man greeted as I slid off the edge of my bed, my feet taking a little while to feel the concrete beneath them.
"Good morning Dr. Cho." I replied, he smiled breathlessly before taking my hand and beginning to lead me into the hall way.
"Are we doing more tests today?" I asked looking up at the doctor who was holding my hand as we walked, he shook his head.
"Not today, today is a very um.. special day." He replied slowly. I didn't understand what that meant, or what it was going to mean in a matter of minutes.
The door at the end of the corridor opened, a quiet buzzing came from the other side as a nurse and another little hybrid, maybe the same age as me made their way in our direction.
He was a dog hybrid and had tears in his eyes as he looked to face me. I scanned him up and down, taking in his ears, tail, and the small black lettering on his ankle.

Dr. Cho pulled me along through the doors, the buzzing was mixed with sobs as he lifted me onto a chair next to another boy.

The sting of the needle into my ankle made me clench my teeth. A nurse led the small bunny boy and lifted him onto the stretcher next to mine.
He was observant.
Looking around everywhere, and focusing on the needle injecting ink into the soft skin of my ankle.
He was about to feel the pain.
He sat, letting his small legs dangle off the stretcher; not that I was much bigger than him. I was assuming we'd be possibly four or five years apart, so not much.
The man finally finished with the marking on my ankle, he rolled on his chair across to the bunny boy.
He began trying to get the boy's ankle, but the boy pulled away, making two nurses come and hold him down.
I watched as tears began to stream down his face, the sound of the gun turned on and his screams got louder as the needle pierced his skin.
For some reason, I couldn't take my eyes off of him. He had some sort of grace about him. Maybe he felt the same way too because his eyes found their way to mine, through all the pain.
It's okay. I mouthed to him, he shook his head. I nodded as he continued to cry. I wanted to tell him It will be over soon, or Just a little longer, but I couldn't.
And I felt bad.

The nurse gave me a juice box and life was good, though my ankle hurt a lot.
She led me into the play room and let me sit at a table next to a boy, some dried tears were also on his face and I assumed he was poked like I was.
"Hello." I said, flashing a friendly smile at the other boy, a cat hybrid.
He didn't say anything but merely smiled.
