As the title suggests, this is not a poetry chapter. And this rant does come with a trigger warning.
All you ever hear in American news anymore is stories of either mass shootings or suicides. Everyone wonders why things like that keep happening. Two words: GLORIFICATION and POPULARIZATION.
Columbine, Sandy Hook, Parkland, Miami. Each of those shootings had MASSIVE news/media coverage. The names of the suspects and live footage were even released to the public. Shootings are being portrayed as "cool" or even Sometimes as "validly okay". THEY AREN'T.
As for suicides, when a celebrity or someone of great importance offs themself, the mainstream media is all over that like white on rice.
Bennington: hanging.
Cornell: hanging.
Cobain: shotgun to the head.
Williams.
Bourdain.
All different celebrities within the last few (I use that term loosely) years that have offed themselves. And guess who was there to cover it before the suicides were even confirmed: NEWS COMPANIES.
Instead of passing laws and regulations, the American people need to stop the glorification and popularization of shootings and suicides. The less details of either that are shown, the less interest will be shown in the subject.
