Tender

When she sat before the keys on a piano, she could feel the excitement even before she started playing. She set her hands on the long, white keys and began to let the melody overtake her. Kira was passionate. She felt lifted as the music flowed within her, each tune she played brought forth new feeling. The sense of accomplishment that she felt from pressing the correct key was indescribable. Her black hair was tied back into a loose bun. Her sharp, deep blue eyes were focused on the notes of her sheet music. All of the concentration caused her brows to be furrowed. She wore a simple, black dress that flowed to her ankles. Her bright, pink lips were curled into a smile. Playing the piano always brought her joy. She knew she shouldn't be playing the piano. It scared her to think about the consequences of partaking in music. "Music has influence, influence causes chaos and chaos is unacceptable." According to Master Fess, the only thing they should be influenced by is him. The people say she needs to follow along with everyone else, stay on their pace, play their melody. Kira refused to sing that tune. The song of master Fess was boring, and harsh. She preferred to play her music, and be brought to a world where she could be herself. The world of gentle, forgiving music was where she longed to be.
She was a strong woman, she didn't want to be persuaded. Since one day the piano may disappear, she made sure she had every part of it burned into the back of her eyes. Her memory of the instrument is not a right that has to be earned, but a duty that must be kept. She continued to play her music, allowing her thoughts to dissipate. The calmness of the steady tune coaxed her. She felt the warmth that the song had brought. The soothing music slowly filled the entire room. She was playing in a small room she had made with Wayne. It was their own clubhouse. They had built it using wood that her father had chopped and smoothened using a machine. They split the fee and paid her father for the wood. Then they began construction a little over 6 years ago. It was a silent area, with no one to disturb them. It saddens her that this is the only place she trusts, where she could truly experience freedom. The room was completely bare, besides the bookshelf filled with musical books, and the little piano that was placed in the middle of it. They had been passed down for generations, her best friend Wayne was the only person she trusted to help her bring them here. Master Fess had wanted all music to die. All instruments, sheet music, guide books and etc. were ordered to be burned, but clearly not everything had been consumed by the fire. Kira has access to a whole assortment of instrument guide books, and songs of all kinds. Kira finished the song tenderly. Wayne loved how Kira played softly and with such grace. Wayne watched Kira as she prepared for the next song. Wayne had dark skin, and big dark eyes. He was handsome, and Kira knew it. He had a fit, and proportional body. He was very tall, and muscular. The 18 year old boy loved nothing more then to watch Kira daze off into a new world. The childlike look in her eyes attracted him, he never had the nerve to tell her though. He sat on a wooden chair that he had carried all the way from home. Since their little room is in the middle of nowhere, he must've dragged it a long way. He was leaning forward on the chair while studying Kira. Her music always seemed to take him to a different time. A time where music was allowed, and cultures were preserved rather than destroyed. He wishes moments like these would last forever. These are the moments when Kira seemed happiest. Her happiness made him happy. One day he would marry her, he decided. They shared everything with each other, their dreams, goals, ambitions, everything was a known fact in the little clubhouse.
They dreamed of a world so far from here, that it would never appear on a map. To them their little room was their world, but they both knew it was temporary. Kira and him often talked about it. They wanted to get to know the world, but how could they when they had to be so secretive despite the fact that what they do doesn't harm anyone. They dreamt, talked and played together in the room that they had built. It was always Kira and Wayne against the world.
